In the absence of an official Max-Cohen-autographed Black and Decker drill specced for tiger brains, I think I'm going to watch the Rifftrax dub of The Room.

I wonder which basic intellectual faculty I'll lose for good this time. Probably nothing I'll miss.

re: Dream, a boring dystopia, someone else's woo? (~)

@Phorm @anthracite This would all make an absolutely cracking short story...

@joshua On a related note, have you ever seen the British TV series Look Around You?

Come to think of it... yeah, what they're doing is arguably pure pataphysics comedy. There's nothing else on TV like it.

re: family, death

@Balina I wouldn't say gentle so much as quick, but yeah. There's another universe where we had to watch Matt go through a protracted year-long battle and suffer far more than he did, and... I honestly don't see what good that universe would have brought. He'd already been deprived of most of his joys in life except for TV, and was pretty much chairbound after being a pretty active guy, and that's just not living. *sighs and hugs*

@joshua Basically, it was a movement started by the French surrealist Alfred Jarry, which would supposedly be to metaphysics what metaphysics was to physics. The same way surrealist art uses dream imagery to portray profound truths about human irrationality, pataphysics imitates the form of science but deliberately deals only with crazy, ironic, illogical things. For example, Jarry tried to claim, tongue-in-cheek, that gravity was just a remarkable series of coincidences. :)

@joshua Do you want a straight answer for that? 'Cause I can give you one! =^_^=

mood (-)

Ever just hit the point where nothing at all interests you, and all you want to do is kinda wait out the clock for another 30 years?

I want some magic back. I worry that part of my brain's just rotted out.

Maybe I should try drinking. It's the only drug the conservative sons-of-bitches in this goddamn swamp seem to approve of.

@Leucrotta I mean, it wouldn't accomplish anything. You'd be instantly written off as One Of Those Awful Leftists and it would just reinforce their persecution complex. If you can't hit them on the issues, it's probably best to let them go—even knuckle-dragging Know Nothings have the right to enjoy a festival. O:) I think you are morally unimpeachable here.

dreams (++)

Woke up with the following phrase left over, with no real context:

"Transbiotic coach."

I don't know what it means, but I want one.

re: CW: Discussion of kinks, flashing lights, intoxication

@SangriaSnake The aforementioned dragon also thought you might be amused by this art she created for a friend...

re: CW: Discussion of kinks, flashing lights, intoxication

@SangriaSnake Honestly, that was true of a lot of the stuff I saw as a kid that transmuted into kink content. Especially hypnosis and mental TF stuff—the idea of someone I cared about becoming alien or robotic to the point of being inaccessible scared the hell out of me, 'cause I have separation anxiety a mile wide.

I wonder sometimes if sometimes it's not an adaptive measure, our brains turning it into forbidden fruit and giving us an incentive to keep encountering the fear source over and over, so we have to process it...

re: CW: Discussion of kinks, flashing lights, intoxication

@SangriaSnake Because reptiles are adorable? =^_^=

(I'm all but married to a dragon so I could be biased and/or spellbound. =n.n= )

cynicism

The average human life is the equivalent of approximately 260,000 consecutive feature films in length.

No wonder I'm so bored. Doesn't this series ever go anywhere? It's almost as bad as the MCU. -_-

re: dreams (~)

@anthracite Yeah. Wrote down everything I did, too, so if I ever have to repeat it, I know exactly how to get back here. <3

re: dreams (~)

@001zlnv Honestly, if I gotta deal with John DeLancie, I'd rather have Discord?

dreams (~)

Remembered a bit of my dream last night. I was given the opportunity to go back in time and completely unwind one of my relationships from ever happening. My brain apparently couldn't keep track of which one, but it seemed to think it was either Rik or one of my college girlfriends.

The climactic scene was of me deliberately fucking up a moment where I was accidentally funny and charming for once. I just kinda... let myself default to my own worst habits and fate did the rest.

I expected that once the deed was done, the timestream would snap me back to a new, less complicated and painful present. And the dream ended with me just sitting there in shock, on a city bus, realizing that wasn't going to happen. I had to live all those years out, and the loneliness that was going to come with them, in real time.

re: Laptop Woes, Cont'd (With apologies that I am venting my anxiety here)

@Phorm Oof, yeah. OK, if it's actively swelling... definitely sounds like it should be treated as a Clear And Present Threat. Sounds like you are on the right general path for getting it taken care of.

re: Laptop Woes, Cont'd (With apologies that I am venting my anxiety here)

@Phorm Hmm. Running sympathetically through my own Anxiety Checklist...

1) Research the actual instance of how often this happens. It's like fear of flying: it's an understandable anxiety because of the catastrophic nature, but is it based on a statistically low risk?

2) Are there any advance warning signs of a battery that's about to fail?

3) What are coworkers and friends you know who are in similar situations doing about theirs?

I know you probably know rationally to do all these things, but I'm just thinking of the kind of reminders I'd like to get from a friend when I'm fretting about similar things. <3 <3

stepbrother, mourning, media

I never even knew he was into the Coen Brothers. Apparently, The Big Lebowski was one of his favorite films. We could've talked for hours about it.

Apparently, he also used to sit on the couch and "plan the zombie invasion" with my mom while they watched TV. "I know you don't like all that blood and stuff, so I'll stab 'em with the chainsaw, and you can raid the supermarkets and make sure we all stay fed."
