* barista guild certified
* i have ordered a coffee w/9 ingredients called "chaos theory"
* fancy-ass pastries
* obscuro 60s psychedelic rock on PA
* local pop-tart tribute named "punktart"
* distinct sense the employees are free-range and don't hate life
* punk iconography everywhere, including a jolly roger with espresso scoops for bones

Yeah, basically, I don't miss Seattle. :D

Today's music selection at the cafe has been exclusively from a genre I can only describe as "cartoon infant gabber" and I have never been more grateful for headphones. I think it was exactly what you would get if you rotated my favorite music 180° along every possible qualitative axis.

@JulieSqveakaroo Thanks, roo. It's still hard not to worry that I haven't pissed everybody off and they just wouldn't tell me—given that's exactly how my last big social blow-up happened. But... yeah. You make a really, really good point. I love you all, and I'm sure it's mutual in most cases... but we can't pretend this is all new and exciting anymore. We've, collectively, seen it all. *hug*

...I went through my follow list, and almost everyone who wasn't following me back was either (a) an artist who didn't know me, who I was watching purely as a fan (b) a friend who hasn't touched Twitter in ages or (c) an organization instead of a single person.

There was no problem at all with me. Total illusion. And I am embarrassed and ashamed I let it get to me like that. But i'm still finding it damnably hard to make connections.

For the most part, I'm having a good time since I returned to Birdsite. It's a guilty pleasure, this place still feels... purer... but I admit I am really enjoying being within yelling range of Trump cultists and TERFs.

But I found myself getting down on myself because I had twice as many follows than I did followers. Was it something wrong with me? Why was it so much easier when I was @CabbitAnalytics back in '16?!

Well...

I keep trying to convince myself, no, no, it's not that you've burnt up all your social capital. It's not that you're old and boring and don't do a damn thing of interest anymore. It's not that people only wanted you when you were the hot sexy new thing—to whatever tiny extent you were. It's the Final Age. The Internet's undergoing emotional heat death. Nobody's got energy left for this shit. It's not just you, it's everybody.

I don't actually believe it, but it's still comforting.

Getting a big Norma Desmond mood this evening. You know, the protagonist from that old movie Sunset Boulevard, the one whose career faded and she went insane? "I am big. It's the pictures that got small!"

I am big. It's the Internet that got small. I keep trying to convince myself of that, as Birdsite and Masto get quieter and quieter, and it becomes harder and harder to make real emotional connections here, even with people I used to be very close to and have deep conversations with.
