cats, anxiety/mh, silly
i am prone to panic at the faintest sign of a crisis, and that has been making kitten-rearing a bit of a trial
so for my own sanity i have basically set a ground rule for myself:
any *single* mew or cry from the cats, with no followup, can be safely interpreted as just "hello yes i am a cat am i currently eligible for any prizes please"
and thus ignored
liv, snowy, if i had anything left that you haven't already knocked off my bookshelves, i'd be giving it to you
mood, rant, very dark, covid-adjacent, misanthropy
current mood:
i want to wave a handgun in a Trump voter's face while rambling angrily at him about how i read on facebook that bullets are fake and don't really kill people and they can stop overreacting because even if i did accidentally pull the trigger -- which never really happens -- they'd probably be fine and after all more people die of the flu each year than from being shot five times in the groin so facts not feels and would you please get over yourself
let's see how they like it
"Bob", more misanthropy
A recent quote sticks with me, from a birdsite thread about how this segment of the population is now unmasked in every sense. It was someone who provides therapy to people whose job or circumstance is to be heroes: _"They used to say, 'I'm only doing what any person would do.' They don't say that anymore."_
aliensite, snark, stem careers, even more misanthropy, a word of thanks
i just ran into the biggest classist piece of shit stereotypical STEM ex-mil dickbag on reddit
and i just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone here with a science or engineering career for being so queer and sensitive and emotionally intelligent and respectful towards those of us in the liberal arts
i.e., the exact opposite of this dipshit walking fedora
@Leucrotta If it's any consolation, I have developed almost PRECISELY the same aversion to yoga for the exact same reasons. It's like it's the #1 go to for people who want to give you ph/mh advice but don't actually want to listen to your problems in any detail at all.
"Bob", more misanthropy
the church of the subgenius got a lot of things wrong but damn if they weren't dead right about the "conspiracy of the normals" -- the theory that the "conspiracy" is just the result of all the stifling, visionless decisions made by neophobes who won't do introspection or self-criticism
i tried to tell y'all this back in the LJ days but people just called me an elitist and assured me that the typical, oh say, Republican voter was surely a very deep and sensitive human being with a rich inner mental life and vast wells of compassion we only haven't tapped because we're so different.
i was _completely_ wrong about the idea that this quality correlates with social class, hobbies, or even is necessarily limited to one part of the political spectrum. and i also failed to take into account that this mentality was something clearly THRUST upon most of these people by interested sociopolitical forces.
still. i still believe there is something very different between people who cultivate a rich intellectual and emotional life -- yes, including some of the shit that we do with identity and narrative, that was the whole point -- and those who don't, and the latter is the biggest active threat to humanity, even if they themselves comprise the bulk of it.
it's 2020 and i just can't bring myself to repent of this idea.
@Balina god, the nostalgia sting was awful here, too. <3 the internet was just so much... cozier then *sigh*
mood, media ref, misanthropy, implicit omnicide
yeah, i am definitely getting those "hermes conrad scratching his chin at the airlock" feelings again
not at any of you folks, just at the world in general. so many people right now competing to be relabeled as "expendable biomass" in my personal ethical hierarchy
re: Poker Quest
@Cerulean Yeah, weirdly axes seem to be consistently a little OP, maybe just because they're one of the few things you can dump a fair number of cards into without some crazy hand...
@JulieSqveakaroo @anthracite ...and the French thought he was a genius?
snark, uspol meta, language
Translation table:
"Educate yourself" means "read the same propaganda I did until you agree."
"Clear evidence," unless clearly cited, means "vague emotional memory."
"Indisputable facts" means "strong opinion."
"Do your own research" means "I don't know either."
"Facts not feels" means "WARNING: I am unable to distinguish my feelings from facts."
"You're just mad" means "I'm just mad."
re: Poker Quest
@Cerulean Seriously, if you're looking for roguelike card games, I can not recommend Griftlands highly enough, especially since their 3rd character's been partially released... Granted, it is a very different set of mechanics than PQ and some find the dual-deck system frustrating.
re: Poker Quest
@Cerulean I've made it to 4 with Rogue and would be delighted to trade tips sometime! I find myself having the best luck when I can max out on items that only take 1-2 cards plus one many-card item, plus a standard draw big enough to feed them, ignoring all else. i have no IDEA if that's the right path or not... god, basic supply management in this game is so harsh and the food mechanic alone is just brutal so i share all of your frustration...
@anthracite i sincerely and genuinely love that idea, actually. very swamp witch. :D also very punk!
@anthracite this is peak peggy tbh <3
current mood: contrarian
