Also, there's a big difference between "person actively being swallowed" and "hearing about people getting swallowed 2,000 miles away." The latter allows for a... certain reflection that the former does not. ;p I think that if being devoured by whales were to become a social problem, yeah, eventually it would become time to sit down and discuss how we're going to formulate a plan to deal with it... and I can't see how not knowing what the hell taxonomic order you're dealing with wouldn't be KINDA IMPORTANT. :p

@spacewastrel@yiff.life "Insurrection" is still VERY much on the table. I'd give it about an 80-90% accuracy if I were forced to put a number on it. I'm about around 60-70 on sedition, maybe 40-50 on treason because that has VERY SPECIFIC LEGAL DEFINITIONS in the US for very good reasons.

Admittedly, my objection to "coup" was kinda pedantic -- but I do think it's a really important distinction to make, between "violent, seditious, illegal uprising" and "actual credible attempt to hijack the functions of state and replace the legitimate elected goverment with a ruling junta."
