"It is a tragedy, I feel, that people of a different sexual type are caught in a world which shows so little understanding for homosexuals and is so crassly indifferent to the various gradations and variations of gender and their great significance in life." -- Emma Goldman, in a letter to Magnus Hirschfeld, A HUNDRED FUCKING YEARS AGO
blatantly unfair angry Gen-Xer Who Just Doesn't Get It discourse snark (but lord it feels good)
"Millennial demands complete reworking of your linguistic habits to their personal comfort, film at 11."
You're free to sympathize with them all you want. Me, personally, they lost me for good at "I find 'neurodiverse' a lot less othering than terms 'neurodivergent.'"
That's nice, kid. I'll keep that in mind... and then continue with my own linguistic habits, shaped by my own experiences and sensibilities, cheerfully indifferent to which parts of speech, Greek root, or letters of the alphabet you take umbrage to.
And how about you just meet me half the fucking way and put it into some context instead of assuming it's meant as a personal affront. Or better yet, how about we just don't talk to each other period, since you're muting everybody who thinks you're being a dismissive fuckwit anyhow. 🙄
I'm not ill. I'm not lost. I'm not failing. I'm supposed to be like this, I'm dealing, and I'm exactly the way I want to be right now.
(Well, actually I'm freaking out over last-minute NOLA travel logistics because we forgot to rent a car, but you know what I mean. Relative to the Discourse I'm fine thanks. :) )
@JulieSqveakaroo Honestly? I have kind of a soft spot for multi-use places like that. Peg's dragged me to the REI flagship store downtown and I always kinda liked that it had a cafe, a restaurant, climbing walls and bike paths for testing gears, a mini-garden, a conference hall for "outdoorsy" events, a petting zoo...
(Okay, I'm probably joking about the petting zoo, but it was a big complex and I only saw about half of it.)
@JulieSqveakaroo Well, young one, many a young acolyte has grasped the IKEA Nature through meditation, study, and the purchase of sensibly priced household items. I, however, got to pretty much the same place by eating vast quantities of their meatballs. You are free to choose your path.
nostalgia
Ran across this classic on YT by accident and now I'm the happiest kind of sad... "Really Rosie," the animated musical this is from, is a massive bit of personal "mom and me" nostalgia.

I also ended up listening to the title number, all full of bitter irony, during the postfurry days whenever I started feeling like a huge empty charlatan, a dumb kid with an big idea they can't recognize they're not big enough for.

So yeah, big feels.
sickening relationship cuteness
I have been making an increasingly baroque and contrarian display out of telling Peggy "no!" every time she's asked me if I could lock the door behind her when she leaves the apartment.
This makes me smile almost every day.
This time it was "I can't commit to an answer right now, but I can have the lab team look at it and we should have an impact report for you in 3-5 days."
Then after she had already gotten down the front step, I waved her urgently back to the porch, opened the window, and explained, "Oh. It turned out to be really easy, you just turn the little metal thing and it clicks shut! Do... do you still want me to have them run those tests?"
😺😺😺
@mawr Also once @acetone_kitten and I discovered a can of pink liquid latex had ruptured and formed a very tidy, easily removed spill on our closet floor. Rik described it as "the cutest industrial accident ever" and I'd kind of like _that_ to be my gender.
