Update: At the eye clinic waiting to be fit in for an exam. The family sitting next to us has been playing minimal-quality South Asian childrens' Youtube videos at full volume, the kind that are soaked in four kinds of sugar syrup and dubbed with cloying infant noises every two seconds. I think it is too late for me; my eye will have exploded from sheer suppressed rage (since I absolutely do NOT have the heart to tell this adorable child she can't watch her vids) long before they can have a look at it.

The bad news: dammit, my health insurance doesn't kick in until July.

The good news: scheduled an eye exam for today, looks like it's going to be much cheaper than I feared.

I'll deal. I suspect if I end up needing urgent care, I can get some sympathy for being a newbie who at least *tried* to get coverage...

But shrimp beignets turn out to be FRIGHTENINGLY CHEAP, and even ordinary chicken tenders from a pizza joint are better than any fried chicken I ever had in Seattle or Boston.

Like I said earlier... it's basically a wash. No pun intended. Maybe if I eat the right wrong things, I can beat the storm gods to the punch and meet the Reaper halfway, on my own fucking terms. 🐯​

The bad news: there's a TINY little technicality on my health insurance app that's just bad enough to leave me worried something is gonna go horribly wrong. Basically, I might have selected the wrong Special Enrollment Period option for someone moving from state to state. I'm praying there are enough actual human beings in the process that someone can spot it and fix it without causing a big Kafkaesque cascade of red tape. It'd be just my damn luck to have to wait another whole month because of a minor misclick.

The good news: I'm paying like $50 less per month in premiums (including a dental plan!) which is a nice surprise given I'm now living in a diseased swamp. If all does go well, you'd better believe that's all going right back into the sushi fund. :D

Meh, can't shake the deep-rooted feeling of dooooooom today.

The eye stuff is stable, but it ain't helping, nor is the impending battle with healthcare bureaucracy as my application deadline swiftly approaches.

The news isn't helping either, but I didn't tag this uspol, and it's not like you didn't already know.

And honestly, NOLA is beautiful, but it isn't helping either. Apparently we live in one of the more flood-vulnerable parts of the city, which is... fun.

And my dreams lately have been about nothing but abject social failures, public temper tantrums, and well-deserved rejection. I feel so cut off from everyone and everything, and I think the fact I'm *still* never going to get any real closure for The Thing is still doing a lot of damage.

That look of relief when I realize the guy putting up café flyers for "Sisters of Christ" is referring to a local punk record shop and the name is 100% ironic. Apparently, the whole store has kind of a "good-natured sacrilege" theme going...

(I would have also been happy with them being, say, both real punks and real social-revolutionary Christians. As long as they're not just another gang of Republican Mammonoids disguised as "the cool kids"...)

Looks like one of my favorite lost Youtube videos got reuploaded. You don't really need to have seen Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni to get the joke— especially if you've seen any of the abysmal 4Kids dubs they're parodying— but it *is* my favorite "friendship magically solves everything" show, and has the highest (temporary, it's a long story) body count of any of them. ^_______^

(No, seriously, Higurashi is actually a really heartwarming story... eventually. Just remember time heals all wounds. And the video below is itself, gloriously, implausibly G-rated.)
