quote of the day

"Oh, yes, I've learned from my mistakes. And I'm sure I could repeat them exactly." -- Peter Cook (as Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling)

pseudo-religion, murphy's laws, memetic hygiene

This shall be the whole of the law. This may also be a very broad-spectrum subtoot, as I grow increasingly impatient with the way my Fellow Travelers handle semiotic "threats."

Oh, and Peg has been deliberately taking her own sweet time to feed them as a lesson in cat patience. (The same shit she does to me, honestly.)

I felt this was fair and deserved, but spending 2-3 full minutes waving the full bowl over their heads like a Cat Magnet was just going too far. And funny as shit.

Oh, a belated

===== KITTY ALERT =====

Sugarfoot was waiting right at the door this morning as I was heading out to the cafe. Miss Quivertail was next to her within seconds, and both of their attention was _intensely_ fixed on the empty food dishes.

After months of total indifference, and without the Food Lady in sight, Sugarfoot suddenly LOVES me. I'm sure this will have expired by the next time I see them, especially if they've been fed.

Still love the little shits.

re: pseudo-religious devotional; dadaism

@Aradia *cackle* Give her my most semi-sincere apologies. 😽

re: trans stuff

@Phorm @JulieSqveakaroo @anthracite @xinjinmeng You can do a LOT worse than becoming Sheila. Sheila is a frickin goddess.

re: trans stuff

@Phorm @anthracite @xinjinmeng Maybe, and as a gravelly old dago I sympathize, but under the rules of the Raggedy Ann and Andy Drinking Game, I'm still obliged to drink for the idea of a geniefox with a vocoder implant... especially if she sounds like a drone and has no visible mouth. *evil grin*

@Balina noooooooooooooooooooooo i was afraid you were gonna say that *pout*

creative process; comics; la vie boheme; delayed gratification (±)

Every time I think about Parallax in any kind of social, commercial, or critical context, I am filled with complete and utter despair.

Every time I go and actually _read the freaking comic_ for what it is, especially when I look at Anthracite's art, I am filled with hope and excitement.

Is this just how the creative life works? I'm inclined to say "yes," but I could use a second opinion here.

normal fucking things (++)

The rest of today was mundane and special and good. Well, as mundane as you can get from a day out in New Orleans.

Peg and I went down to Magazine Street and checked out the shops and restaurants. We had fancy-for-hot-dogs hot dogs and donuts, and she bought a little spinny biker-skeleton decoration that is nominally for Halloween but I suspect will stay there year round. He's a happy little undead guy!

The only thing that was really wrong with today was the bus full of hooting, hollering Saints fans hazing the other passengers, reminding me that Mandatory Football Appreciation Season is on its way.

dream fragments

(I realize these are hardly ever interesting for anyone except the dreamer. I'm not exactly sure why I'm jotting them down here instead of a proper dream journal.)

* Whelk restaurant. A whole bunch of estranged friends and I went to a seafood restaurant that only served whelks. They were about thirty times bigger than real whelks, big rubbery white things. It was very Eraserhead "manmade chicken" in there. At some point I went outside to meet up with my father (who died in 1986, and never showed up in the dream either), and nobody would let me back into the restaurant.

* I found myself wandering lost around a college dorm. This happens a lot in my dreams. I find myself trapped inside someone else's house, embarrassed and afraid I'll have to explain what I'm doing there, and the building just sprawls on and on into the next person's dwelling, with no outside to be seen. I remember seeing a 20' wide TV screen and a bunch of happy social groups sitting in front of them, and being really envious that my dorms at Case Western weren't remotely this nice. There was a lot of hardwood, too. >_<

* They had started G5 of My Little Pony. In this version, all the dragons in the world had been brainwashed and enslaved by the same evil wizard. I found this hot but irksome.

@anthracite This is kinda making me want to give Kirt himself some buggy/mothy traits in a later respawn...

Also, the obvious answer to this question should be the subject of the next big RTS game.

re: crass

@Leucrotta I don't think she coined it, but yeah, it's become one more tragic part of our common language. :>

The Froot Loops thing came from somewhere else, too, I think a random post to one of the smuttier MLP subreddits. They labeled each flavor with the name of one of the Mane 6, god damn them. >_<

language, blessed introversion

Today, while researching legendary African musician/revolutionary Fela Kuti, I learned that the Nigerian Creole expression for "leave me the hell alone" is "biko free me" ("please free me").

I love the sentiments wrapped up in that. Big feels there. I might be a tad lonely down here but for my dragonlady, but... yeah, after years of being tangled up in people's drama, I'm feeling pretty damn free.
