So my work lab is e-wasting a bunch of stuff and doesn't care if we pick through the bin before it goes out... I just snagged this for my home lab and am so stoked. :D https://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C600/X10DRL-CT.cfm

@Felthry It's a meme making fun of ridiculous conclusions that also double making fun of the US classification and redaction systems. :)

@rey Awooooooo!
re: Notre Dame fire, engineering
@rey Tbh, I was terrified the heat of the fire and falling wood might crack the vaults. It did in a few places, bust most of them held.
re: Notre Dame fire, engineering
@rey Oh yeah. The stone vaults are the critical bit. Had they not held, there's a good chance the walls would have collapsed too, and that would have been that. The wooden roof is mostly to protect the stone over the longer term, as well as artistic styling.
And yeah, say what you will of all the things medieval builders did or didn't know, but buildings don't last 850 years by accident.
re: Notre Dame fire, engineering
@rey Oh yeah. The second I heard the roof was on fire I was like "oh fuck, the whole thing is going to go".
And as far as safety standards, I'd assume they can at least put water sprinklers up there going forward if the run the pipe outside against a wall. Good luck with access, though. The spiral stairs are absolutely tiny. I've been in them and on top of those belltowers.
@faynefluff I feel you on the knee. Got a bad one myself. :( Does sound like you're making solid progress towards your goals, though. <3
re: MH (-)
@Leucrotta Hugs are always okay. Need them extra at times like this. >.<
re: MH (-)
@Leucrotta If only it was low-lying. Brain is just screaming at maximum volume and I am so tired of it. Think I'm going to take my Lorazepam and try to get some sleep. >.<
So, so happy it's been saved. Here's hoping everything stays stable so it can be properly repaired. <3
(I've actually climbed the interior spiral staircases and stood atop those bell-towers, so I was pretty broken up about the fire. >.<)
My goal as a writer: To wound you so deeply that you start to heal things you didn't even know were broken.
