said this before but I'll say it again: there is no trend in computing I hate more than software that cops an attitude of chirpy, cloying overfamiliarity and friendliness when it's doing something evil or fucking up

"oopsie doopsie, we've had a widdle bit of a fucko-boingo"

Sung to the tune of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm":

"Mary Had a Little Lamb".

You're welcome.

re: vent

@xinjinmeng @Soreth Here's one for you: for many early videogame consoles, colors weren't stored anywhere as direct RGB values.

Some systems had fixed palettes of bewildering design (looking at you, ColecoVision and TI-99/4A and the like).

The Atari VCS and NES (not PlayChoice or PAL) did this, but with a much more organized palette based on the way the NTSC color signal works; they based palettes on the degree of color carrier phase shift (hue) and a range of luma values!

re: vent

@Soreth @xinjinmeng I've been watching a thread on the Libretro (RetroArch) forums with folks hashing out exactly what the fuck was going on with CRT-era colorspaces and why basically nobody ever built to the standards.

Color is weird, yo.

@jakebe Fae rabbit, no... but a somewhat fae pony-with-head-cone? Heck yeah. grin

re: previous boost of a snippet from an RP character's journal

Because heck yeah we want magical synthesizers played by magical robots and their friends! ✨ 🤖 🎵

@xinjinmeng Aaaaaargh, this. And from the other side as well: When I was doing conbook stuff I would provide proper dimensions to folks and then get the wackiest shit in return because they never passed the info to the person who needed it to do their thing. Or, if they didn't ask me, they got bad info from another random staffer who Just Wanted To Help And Anyhow Wasn't It That Size Last Year?

sigh, hits the bong again

@rainwarrior LibreOffice has its problems, many of them crashy... but it's still pretty good! I just hope they manage an actual dark-mode interface for the Windows version sometime soon.

...and I think I'd commit more major crimes than usual to get a WordPerfect-style "View Codes" mode in the Writer module, but I've wanted that in every word processor ever since using WordPerfect 5.1 in high school. shrug

Description of a memory leak using scatological humor.

It's like Windows Explorer filled its britches and then sat on Firefox.

An intrinsic part of art creation, that isn't often discussed, is how fragile our creations are while we are working on them.
Text can get erased online and paper can get torn or lost.
Sewing can get easily cut or drinks spilled on them.
Electronics can get pieces lost, broken, or corroded.
Don't even get me started on code.
Art is fragile y'all. Thanks for making it despite that.

@Leucrotta If only.

Though I prefer stories where the golem realizes their creator is a prime fuckhead and erases some of their glyphs, if you catch my drift, aye?

Or they become good friends and fight crime!

here's my take on getting out of bed: the world is much scarier when you are naked and have low blood sugar

Graphic of three figures seated around an open space, overlaid text reads OINGO BOINGO, CAKE, and WEIRD AL YANKOVICH, in the center are the words SONGS WHERE THEY GO “HEY!” A LOT.

"The three strongest things in the world are gravity, compound interest, and nostalgia."

@pendragon My snarky autistic shoulder-devil wants to respond to them with, "Gee, having trouble knowing how to react when you can't rely on seeing the social cues of others to tell you what behavior to blindly mimic?"

My gentle autistic shoulder-angel wants to remind me that I also constantly check to see if others in the room are laughing at the same stuff I am, so... sympathy for them?

Regardless of all that... yes, most of those attempts at humor suck. But Loading Ready Run is still great!

@LexYeen@snouts.online Not so much fursona as other headperson, but Millimax already describes herself as being in the process of becoming a "haunted pony-shaped teapot". Her special someone, Medya, is similarly to be a "haunted gryphon-shaped chandelier".
