Hey so remember how I posted a thing and was like is this a fox? So yeah that was because I was making some tiny adorable animal friends. They are done now!

Hey so the Seattle Police Department is holding a free Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner next week!
It Sure Would Be Terrible if all the seats were taken up by people who aren't law enforcement officers and don't intend to show up! ![]()
FTC looking into software/web "dark patterns", submissions requested
The FTC is looking into "what dark patterns are and how they affect consumers and the marketplace. Some of the topics the workshop will examine include:
* how dark patterns differ from sales tactics employed by brick-and-mortar stores;
* how they affect consumer behavior, including potential harms;
* whether some groups of consumers are unfairly targeted or are especially vulnerable; what laws, rules, and norms regulate the use of dark patterns; and
* whether additional rules, standards, or enforcement efforts are needed to protect consumers."
"To assist the agency’s analysis of this issue, the FTC seeks public comments on the following topics to be discussed at the workshop. The FTC is particularly interested in data, studies, research, and other empirical evidence addressing these issues. Interested parties may submit comments electronically at Regulations.gov. The deadline for submitting comments is May 29, 2021."
(The document's slightly confusing, as there was also a workshop - that's already happened - but that was only a starting point)

If you like Megaman X4, speedrunning in general, or just hearing the nicest guy in the world do voices and occasionally sing along with videogames, TheBlacktastic is gettin' set to have a first go at learning to speedrun MMX4. Should be good!
anyway this concept of the cycle of art ability self-perception is super useful.

QWRPLINE presents the Nsburg Defnders Pntad! (City of Heroes, Loading Ready Run)
Derek: Tanker (somehow survives despite his best efforts)
Richter: Blaster (overconfident and oblivious to team panic)
Edith: Controller (oddly grounding and sleep counts as a mez okay)
Alex: Scrapper (tends to escalate by clawing at everything)
Graham: Defender (desperately failing to keep it all together)
Masks keep dropping. (covid, shouting but not caps))
Over half the folks I see with masks leave them gaping open at the top such that the nose doesn't even come in contact with the the mask. This isn't wearing a mask, it's dangling a fashion accessory and pretending to technically meet the rules. It's intentionally conspicuous neglect.
There was one of these in an enclosed area Orrery and I also had to sit in.
I asked him to put it on correctly and he tugged it up to appear to cover his nose then looked away... and it dropped back down to below. So I asked him again. He did the same thing again.
Orrery told him to pull it up. He said he'd been vaccinated, so why did we care? (The CDC recommends folks still wear masks in public after vaccination.)
That's when somebody-definitely-not-me had had enough. They walked up to the guy, stood with their mouth a foot from the dude's ear, and screamed at near top volume, "Put. On. Your. Mask!" Not the best move, and it might technically count as assault, but I know I'd call it defense of self and others. Still, not the greatest.
To his credit, he didn't really flinch... but at least he left the room. I'm sure they stubbornly refused to learn anything from it, though, and I'm sure that somebody-definitely-not-me is somewhat uncomfortable with having snapped like that.
But still, that must have been very, very cathartic for them.
@Leucrotta So much this. It's been an interesting ride, picking up favorite media from when I was younger... and seeing so many ways in which they're anywhere from flimsy to problematic. Do I still love 'em? For lots of reasons, yeah, but not without reservations, and I certainly don't recommend 'em without content warnings (provided I can remember what needs CW's!)
If you have a cellphone seized by a law enforcement agency or other TLA, chances are they'll use Cellbrite's wares to sift through your data.
Here, Signal analyses Cellebrite's software's own security. Want to guess how good it is? =:)
