Ah! Nevermind, found the "problem". Restored default Segoe UI ugliness to Windows, everything works fine now.
Really, Microsoft? This is how badly you need your bullshit branding to stick?
Day 3 of Kwanzaa focuses on Ujima, or Collective Work and Responsibility: https://jakebe.com/2017/12/28/kwanzaa-day-3-ujima-collective-work-and-responsibility/
I've got to share this album by one of my favourite composers: https://shnabubula.bandcamp.com/album/cosmic-diaspora
Come for the really synthy videogamey prog rock, stay for the tonality-twisting alien landscape. No, seriously, it starts accessible and then gently gets weirder, so you can always stop if it gets too out-there. (The last track almost stopped me, but not quite – it doesn't push the obscure microtonal tunings enough to make me nope out.)
At least look at the pretty cover art. Oooh, pretty.
Adobe software, disturbing typography.
Replacing Segoe UI in Windows 10 can greatly improve readability and aesthetics, but there are occasional side effects. For example, if a program ignores good practice by insisting too hard on having Segoe UI and ignoring the substitutions table, the font offered up may not be appropriate for the task.

Hey folks, I'll be writing about Kwanzaa ALL WEEK on my blog. I want to introduce the holiday to folks who've only heard about it while also talking about why it's personally significant to me. :)

Fellow videogame music lovers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiHARNmz5fQ is a playlist of a single representative track from every single one of Konami's Famicom and NES games in chronological order. This takes two hours – but it's two solid hours of some very, very good music, with annotations that point out sound engine upgrades, notable composers, and other neat trivia.
Of course, it starts a little simplistic, but you get to hear the evolution of some of the greatest stuff out there. I approve!
Or, just listen to the soundtrack here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2B69BAADE72B245D
I especially like the Rusty Ruin, Volcano Valley, Diamond Dust, and Panic Puppet Act 2 tracks. Basically, everything Tatsuyuki Maeda did.
Sonic 3D Blast Director's Cut (Genesis) dropped yesterday. Video and links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nBeppQgFGw
I've never actually liked this game that much, though I really wanted to. The Director's Cut fixes up a lot of the stuff that made it extra frustrating to play and adds some very nice touches. I don't think it's become a _good_ game, but it's no longer such a terrible waste of effort. The graphics are actually pretty sweet and most of the music is amazing. Give it a try!
Mental health – in the positive!
As the benefit of the TMS becomes clearer, the more I say the words, "Depression is ugly, because it makes it so much harder to $ACTIVITY so everything just keeps getting worse."
$ACTIVITY could be any of:
• clean (house|self|anything)
• maintain (friendships|health|anything)
• fulfil (obligations|desires|anything)
• enjoy (good things|myself|anything)
• feel... anything
It's like I've been half-asleep for a long time, but I'm waking up a little more each day.
And it's less than half an hour, which means even my attention span can survive it. *grin*
