Weird brain stuff?

You know, @LexYeen just reminded me that I can't actually shuffle a deck of cards. My father tried desperately to teach me but it never took.

The fastest I ever managed to type was around 55 WPM, and I can only look away from the keys for a half-second before my error rate skyrockets. Additionally, I have to consciously work to keep my keystrokes light, but I always bottom out the keys.

I've never thought of this in terms of disability, but holy hell it's affected my life.

I will sleep now and try not to have memories of Dog's Life (PS2) haunt me.

The shyest of people would leave their faces at home while they went about their public business. Concerned friends gave kindly meant gifts of masks. Some even found masks that improved on public featurelessness. That required an amazing intimacy, though, or great good luck.

What is postfurry?

Trick question! Even we have no idea anymore. It used to mean something, but we all forgot. It doesn't matter, 'cause we're all just doing whatever we want anyhow, and labels only lead to suffering, and why bother suffering when we could be uploading our minds into liquid computers poured into Klein bottles shaped like half-dingo-half-cockatiel samovars or something like that?

THE MORE YOU KNOW

Rest in peace, Ben Barres. I hadn't heard of you before, or at least your name never registered in my mind, and I am deeply sorry for that oversight. Thank you for leading the way, and may we all follow your example moving forward.

It's bad enough that every café in this damn town feels the need to play music at levels slightly louder than would allow for conversation, but it should be plain illegal to play music that has lyrics in the same way it's illegal to smoke at bus stops, you know? Tryin' to breathe, here! Tryin' to think!

If I had a nickel for every time I have accidentally cleared out a toot I was typing up by clicking on something else interesting that popped up in my home timeline, I'd have enough nickels to buy a pad of sticky notes and a pen I could use to write a reminder not to do that.

But then I'd be paying in nickels. How gauche!

Even the last holdouts agreed the total rewrite of emotions was a great upgrade, expanding the range and subtlety of feelings. It was a magnificently well-considered design.

The new blend of nostalgia, for example, had more harmonious blends of wry detachment and affectionate appreciation of what had been. It simply worked better than the old.

Still, some held that they missed the former nostalgia. To this the lead designer answered only that famous cryptic smile.

Source Code Pro, as a note. So it's not the _most_ terrible choice. Its just... ugly. Maybe they had a better one in mind and forgot to install it and that's the fallback?

Am I the only one watching and wondering why they put all that effort into a new look for the "interface" stuff if they were just gonna go with that terrible font for all the text?

Drive-in Saturday returns 1/13/18. like movie riffing? join us. DM for more info.

Yup. Nothing quite like having an attempt to work on creative stuff derailed because some bit of undocumented insanity-based myopic-coder UI led me down the wrong path for a couple hours.

I'm sure it made sense to them at the time! *bangs head repeatedly on keyboard*

@vahnj A dragon who encourages an ancient kobold civilization to create art, demanding art from them in tribute to not destroy them -- without intending on destroying them, but curious to see what they'd produce. Nurtures generations of artists and many different styles.

Over centuries, they forget why there's so many dragon motifs.

Yeah, Keet's posting about videogame music again—

—and this time it's music I'd bookmarked some time ago and then only just finally listened to. The album, yes, but especially this one track: youtube.com/watch?v=Gw7UqVz1dR

I'm not going to call this soundtrack revolutionary or anything, but this is the sort of schmaltz that will always get me to smile a lot and dance in my chair a little.

I think that's why I flatten my chair cushions so fast. Yeah, that's gotta be it.

Some good news this morning:

Washington state is now also allowing changing a birth certificate to "X" instead of M or F!

I got an email about it just this morning. :-)
