this is because the dividing line between history and prehistory is the invention of writing. it's history if someone wrote about it and no one wrote about anything before writing was invented

re: musical tuning systems
@unperson i wouldn't call us experienced, we haven't played since high school orchestra, but we do remember tuning like that
-F
re: musical tuning systems
@unperson Tuning in string instruments is usually just as well! Usually, you tune the lowest string (C for the viola, which we play) with a reference, like a tuner or a note played by someone else in the ensemble who you're going to use as your reference, then tune each subsequent string to be a 5th above the one before it
Using someone else as a reference means that string ensembles don't always tune to the same tuning on different days--all that matters, after all, is that they're in tune with each other. they'd do it differently for studio recordings or things, of course

@heatherhorns "you're hot" referring to temperature

@codl what kind of DAW doesn't let you do modulation?
...i guess we don't know anything about DAWs but modulation is a really basic thing in audio synthesis

re: theres a bulge in this one
@fluxom_alt (i actually do not know if other mammals, which is a pretty small category restricted to marsupials and monotremes, have bellybuttons. but skunks definitely do)
-F
re: theres a bulge in this one
@fluxom_alt all placental mammals have bellybuttons, a class that includes skunks. so yes!
-F
@fluxom_alt you do really good faces
-F
@niss we always tried to use the hms in our team too
the most useful ones, surf, fly, and strength, are actually pretty decent moves. i think surf is used on the main in some speedruns just because it's a good move that lots of pokemon can learn

@gardevoir no see carl likes the caverns a lot, the caverns just think that carl's bad

@mossmeow I think it's made obvious simply by the fact that you wouldn't expect to get different answers if you give the same survey to the same people more than once. (well, at least until they get bored and start messing with you.) It might be possible to word it more unambiguously, but I'm not able to think of a way that would sound like natural english.

thikning of trying to play wild arms 4 again. we didn't get very far the first time we played it because there were emulation issues, and then never got into it the second time because it waas too soon after the first time and felt like repeating stuff
we'd have to take the hard drive out of the ps2 though. got an IDE hard drive when we were thinking of trying to load isos onto it but never did that and now it just spins really loudly whenever it's turned on
-F
@manifold well that's easy then, since bluetooth requires that you broadcast your identity

re: meme, alt-text provided
@foxposting Isn't that the one where the guy is really upset that people turned it into a meme, because the song was about a relative passing away and people are constantly reminding him of it?
-F
@zorinlynx Oh wow! I would love to have that, but unfortunately can't justify buying it, $575 is a lot of cash. Wonder if it works.

@pearshapes Happy month-and-a-half-after-your-birthday day
