A dark cavern full of bat-folk is Halloween-appropriate, I think. They're called the Sotzil, and they're one of the descendant branches of the lost continent of Aezo. There's no one Aezite homeland any more; they were scattered centuries ago and developed in their own directions. The Sotzil in particular practice a branch of magic largely unknown on the surface that lets them manipulate time, mass, and gravity. Other Aezites include the lapine Jacalpans and the stubborn rumors of talking mice.
@Draekos well that's certainly an interesting premise

@Draekos a... bingo demon??? is that some slang like "card shark" or is this literally a demon who plays bingo
-F
@ziphi the fact that it's familiar to us means that it's probably either
- from a video game
- some unavoidable holiday music
- classical music
-F
@ziphi this sounds really familiar to us too and now i want to know what it is
-F
@DarkOverord it looks like a really nice form to take
-F
@Patashu @NovaSquirrel i remember those lego games! are any of those still playable?
-F
@Patashu all i know is that when we learned about it all we could think was "what even is the point of having this"
-F
@monsterblue they had several dozen named and plot-relevant characters at a time when the forefront of video game storytelling was basically final fantasy I and dragon warrior I and i just think that's *really* impressive, especially how the story is actually *good* and not generic?
-F
@monsterblue as we recall, SNES Ys III is not just the worst version of ys iii but the worst entry in the entire series
I and II are worth playing sometime if you're interested! they're pretty unique and the music is, as usual from falcom, outstanding
they were among the first video games to have a story with npcs who were actual characters, rather than generic people to give hints and plot elements
-F
@monsterblue probably at least partially because it's the only remake to date that's made them into one continuous game as they were originally intended to be--the game was split in two for time constraint reasons iwrc and so the story is.... not *quite* as "these were obviously not meant to be separate games" as golden sun but pretty close
-F
@monsterblue the big one we wanted to play on it was Ys Books I & II, a compilation remake of the first two Ys games that a lot of people consider to be the best of the games' several dozen remakes
-F
@Zest oh yeah the wii u
great emulation machine. had like two good games on it
-F
every console that has a Fancy New Feature seems to go through an early phase where every game has obnoxious gimmicks that use that feature
the wii had it with everything using motion controls (almost always badly), the ds had it with everything using the touchscreen
i can't really think of any other super gimmicky things on consoles other than the psvita's rear touchpad thing and we don't knwo enough about the vita library to know how badly that was used
-F
@monsterblue we never had a turbografx either, but we got a chance to get one cheap on ebay (a coregrafx, specifically--the second revision of the japanese version) so thought we'd get a flashcart and give it a try (the games themselves are quite expensive)
-F
@sharkNserg @DarkOverord agreed!
-F
@sharkNserg completely forgot that was a pc-engine game! for some reason we thought it was a saturn game but it's too old to be that
