@typhlosion Stellaris probably? Any player can just pause the game at any time to focus on issuing orders and stuff

There's also the Creeper World series which is... well, unique, to say the least. might not be a great entry point to the genre (because it eschews a bunch of genre conventions) but it's neat and good and easy to get into as a beginner

@heatherhorns personally, i like the more detailed eyes more! But that's just me
-F

@cadxdr@weirder.earth I'd love to see the result of this. as an english speaker we've never really known what the polite thing to do is here
-F

@pup_hime Iwrc the switch cartridge port is actually really slow, like slower than the average SD card

If you have it installed on the system though, I dunno. Nintendo's not really the best at load times
-F

@trysdyn If you don't mind my asking, what's a doco?
-F

@trysdyn Also, it's had nothing whatsoever to do with Ys since 2, except for Origins.
-F

@codl There's also more than one type of chlorine bleach! Though i don't think any but NaClO are available to the general public

ClO₂ is used in making paper for instance

re: anti-colonial?

@relee It's a complicated mess of stuff, but the gist of anti-colonialism is that we, as people with privilege, should stop thinking of things as wrong when they're counter to how our society does them, and learn to understand how other societies do them

the colonial mindset is "it's our duty to civilize these uncivilized people" and there are remnants of it in every bit of western civilization today, even if it's not usually that *explicit* about it

one case that comes to mind of shaking off some colonialism is this Mississippian archaeological site we visited once (Moundville, in Alabama), where one of the explanatory plaques said something to the effect that they'd recently realized they can learn a lot about the stuff they don't know by... talking to people from the various cultures that descended from the Mississippians. They're still around. But for over a hundred years white people had been saying "no one knows what this was for" when they could have just asked

re: Probably too serious for this post re: tf, language, silly

@socks @Facet we've heard that gender as a linguistic concept is an entirely separate thing from gender as a.... uh, gender concept

it might be better to call it noun classes (which is already the term used for certain languages that have lots of them), to emphasize that there's not necessarily a correlation with the gender of the referent. Plenty of languages don't even have masculine and feminine gender; that seems to be mostly (but not exclusively) an Indo-European thing. Though it wasn't even originally! it's thought that proto-indo-european had an animate/inanimate gender system, and the animate gender later split into masculine and feminine in some intermediate descendant language (with inanimate being renamed neuter)

@Tathar (virgil's root beer, by the way, is far too anisey for our taste)
-F

@Tathar oh, i looked it up and i was thinking of virgil's root beer

we've never had vernor's ginger ale
-F

@Tathar Haven't had vernors ginger ale, just their rootbeer
-F

@Kilroy the grocery store here sells it regularly (they used to sell a lot of interesting sodas but supply problems mean they mostly just have this, a couple flavors of jarritos, a couple flavors of jones, and cheerwine now) so i'm glad to be able to get it! it's just. kinda expensive.

i guess a lot of people spend more on beer and stuff though. (we don't drink for various reasons)
-F

unfortunately it only comes in 4-packs for $6. which isn't a terrible price but when other sodas come in 12-packs for $5 it feels like a lot

we have been obsessed with this ginger ale lately called Ale81

it's like. not as "basically sprite" as your average ginger ale, but it's not a super strong ginger beer. the perfect level of ginger flavor

@Draekos Ah, that's fair. Colosseum and XD were before the physical/special split too (in gen 3 and before, whether a move used physical or special attack/defense was based entirely on its type, so stuff like thunderpunch was special).
-F

@Draekos Ah, well there aren't any of those, no. The gamecube ones are pretty good if you feel like giving them a try though! Easy to emulate too.
-F

@Draekos (and yes, those games have story and stuff like normal pokemon games. they're not like pokemon stadium)
-F

@Draekos Pokemon Colosseum and XD are both like this
