noticed something interesting while taking the screenshot in the post this is a reply to (took a bit to figure out how to get a good picture of it zoomed in); CJK characters apparently don't have any sort of subpixelly stuff going on with them (probably because they're too intricate and that would make them harder to read?)

our new laptop seems to have weird problems with windowing

seemingly at random, waterfox will get into a state where anything that changes the size of the window just causes the whole window to stop visually updating entirely; videos stop playing (though audio continues), can't scroll or switch tabs

only way to fix it is to close and reopen it

somehow I think there's something wrong with this drive

(it's halfway through being securely wiped, which involves overwriting the entire drive with random data multiple times. there's actually nothing wrong with the drive, it's just had its filesystem replaced with gibberish)
