Just because a lot of people seem to not know: If you have a 3DS and are playing DS games on it, if you hold start or select while the DS game is booting after being selected from the main menu, you can play it in the original DS resolution, which means you get sharp, clean pixel art at the cost of smaller screens.

Language learning is hard but I kind of feel like we ought to try to learn the languages of our ancestors, to preserve languages that would otherwise die out

there are languages with less than ten fluent speakers out there and they have their own unique features, and probably their own oral tradition that ought to be preserved

...I wish we could say we were trying to do just that but. we only know english and our ancestors spoke languages like German and Dutch that are in no danger of extinction, and trying to learn a dying language from a culture you've never been anywhere close to being a part of would be... I don't know, it feels like it'd be wrong

still. i'd like to learn another language sometime. Not for its usefulness, but because some languages deserve more than they're getting.

also it reminded me that Mbabaram, an (unfortunately recently extinct) aboriginal australian language, has the word "dog" for what we in english call a "dog", completely by coincidence

also between different languages, like english much and spanish mucho are completely unrelated etymologically speaking, but they mean the same (or at least very similar) and at a glance would appear to be closely related

words that look like they're related but are actually completely unrelated are interesting

like the words isle and island, which mean the same thing but have completely different roots (isle is from latin insula, island from germanic iland; the s was added to island by analogy)

or the word emoji and various english words like emoticon, emote, emotion (emoji is e-moji, with the e for electronic as in email, and moji is the japanese word for symbol)

and I really appreciate that they show that dynamic throughout the entire megaman series

in the original series, robots are made by humans for specific tasks, and aren't capable of true consciousness

then Dr. Light makes X, the first reploid, and Dr. Cain uses scans of X to make more reploids, which are initially just robots capable of independent thought and true consciousness, but by the time of megaman Zero, reploids have a fully developed place in society (though there's fighting between humans and reploids, they aren't a unified society yet)

and then in ZX the distinction between human and robot has vanished completely

in megaman X and Zero, there are both humans and reploids, which are advanced human-simulant robots

but in ZX, in the 23rd century, there are just humans... except "human" has changed meaning. There are no fully organic people anymore, and there is no distinction between organic and inorganic lifeforms

There's something I just like about that. it's a pleasant thought, that the meaning of "human" can change
