"because we're out of the bounds of the demo, you're going to start seeing bosses that have moves that seemingly do nothing, and that's because they actually do do nothing"

Show thread

this is also a speedrun of a demo version of an obscure rpg so there's the occasional "I'd explain why this trick works, but we just have no idea"

Show thread

watching a speedrun where the commentator says that softlocks are more common than dying to random encounters

that's kind of interesting

(the game being run is specifically the demo version of wild arms, which actually contains a beta version of the full game and you can actually get to and beat the final boss if you skip the part where the demo's meant to end with a glitch. it's very unfinished and so crashes and softlocks aren't unexpected)

I always appreciate it, when watching speedruns, when someone says "the only thing that could possibly be a problem here is if this very specific sequence of things happens, and that's really unlikely", and then just watch the look on their face as that very specific sequence of unlikely things unfolds

why do people still do the (xxx) xxx-xxxx phone number format anyway

it's not like the area code has any special meaning anymore

i don't even know the person in question but now i have a notification from someone i have no reason to block or anything and there is no way to hide avatars

seriously, if it would need a CW, don't use it as an avatar

aaaaaa people *please* don't have eye contact in your avatars it's exceptionally uncomfortable

mh, food

why is preparing food to eat such a chore lately

on top of that nothing seems appetizing

Were there ever any RPGs other than Suikoden and final fantasy 4 that had a party of more than four at a time? It seems like four or three is universal, with a few exceptions like dragon quest/warrior 1 with one person and the mario & luigi series with two

for some reason the fediverse seems obsessed with a type of music called ska and we have no idea what this is

it's really weird to think that there are foundational philosophers important to all of western philosophy who we just *don't know* whether they ever actually existed or not

i'm thinking in particular about Socrates and Archimedes, but i'm sure there are others

just about anything, no matter how vulgar, rude, or otherwise unpleasant, will look beautiful when written in a script you can't read

I wonder if the Latin alphabet looks as aesthetically pleasing to those unfamiliar with it as many other writing systems look to us

Tales of Symphonia spoilers, interesting thing

@connie I'm watching a speedrun of Tales of Symphonia and I thought you might find this interesting, given that you're currently playing it: turns out you can just skip the events around palmacosta and come back later and everything works out--this is done in speedruns because it means you have Sheena on your first visit to the water shrine and you can just go ahead and get Undine instead of backtracking later

This isn't even a glitch or oversight or anything, despite the fact that it means doing level 25+ areas when your party is at level 10-ish; the devs included dialog lines for Sheena in the palmacosta events and everything

because it leaves you hilariously overleveled for the palmacosta events, it also means that the magnius battle takes like twenty seconds (and sure, it's a speedrunner doing it, but that battle is normally really hard and long!)
