agdq, question, please answer?

So we're watching gdq recordings and one of them is a sort of joke game, and the runner commented a lot on the music but we have no idea what exactly is so funny about the music, could someone please explain? (it's a short and entertaining run, we just want to know the context of some of the laughter)

Felthry's VGM Selection, long

Following on from yesterday's selection of Boktai music, a triple today:

Pile Driver / Purify / Death Rattle
Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, and Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack (slight variations played in each game, but the same music underneath)
Kazuki Muraoka, Masashi Watanabe, Norihiko Hibino, Shuichi Kobori (soundtrack composers; individual credits unknown)

Pile Driver: youtu.be/k-_gdDzp_zE
Purify: youtu.be/wsT0STMCCvQ
Death Rattle: youtu.be/DkoEX-_Hen8

These three pieces have to be taken together in context: You've just defeated the boss, an Immortal, but unless you use concentrated sunlight to purify them, they'll just return in fairly short order.

Pile Driver plays when you've gotten the boss's remains in position in the Solar Pile Driver, a machine specifically made for purifying Immortals, but before you've turned it on. Its tense, repeating notes remind you that you're about to finish them off, but you can't relax yet.

Purify plays once you've started the pile driver. That Immortal won't just sit quiet while you try to destroy them! They're doing everything they can to kill you and to shut down the Pile Driver. This music has a driving feel to it, pushing you along to finish what you started.

Once you get their health down low enough, the frantic Death Rattle starts playing as your foe becomes desperate. They're not going down without a fight! But by the time they reach this point, it's already too late; the Pile Driver soon seals their fate... too soon, much of the time--this piece loops quickly but even still you may not hear a full loop if you're fighting well!

it occasionally still feels weird to us how difficult it is to prove the jordan curve theorem, which states, in simple terms, that every sufficiently circle-like curve has an inside and an outside

It's so obviously true, but proving it is a mess

things that come to mind immediately: christmas crackers, boarding schools having 'houses' with rivalries and stuff, houses having names instead of addresses

you know, there are a surprising number of things that are just normal British things that we thought were just things JK Rowling made up for the wizarding world

food, impulse spending

The grocery store had these really good dark chocolate mint truffles on clearance and...... I _may_ have purchased an irresponsible amount of chocolate

we will probably give some of them to coworkers and stuff so it's not like we're going to just eat an absurd amount of chocolate but still.

gdq, watching recordings

runner: "if everything goes wrong, this run could be 38, 39 minutes"

video title: "[...] in 44:15"

Watching the Aria of Sorrow run and the commentator keeps pronouncing "claiomh solais" as "claim so-lays" and augh

@Draekos could I ask what VC is in the context of your last few posts?

why did atari's early consoles get numbers in increments of 2600 anyway? the 2600 was followed by the 5200 and the 7800, which are just 2600*2 and 2600*3

If you think about it, spoons are basically MP.

this game continues to be weird: after replaying an earlier part of the game to get secrets I couldn't get the first time through, I randomly got teleported to a completely different map, with no fanfare at all, nowhere near the map's normal entry points, stuck inside a tree with no visuals at all until I entered first-person mode

it wasn't like, as I exited the other area either, it was a good fifteen or thirty seconds afterward

mild horny (not explicit at all)

every now and then I remember this one character someone had who was a gargoyle enby with lots of multi-stuff and >.>

they were hot >.>

what kind of game design is this where no one can figure out how to complete 12% of the game

Show thread

read in a game walkthrough:

"You'll probably finish the game with 88%. This is normal. No one has
figured out how to get the other 12%."
