oh I forgot I posted this, we got the car problem taken care of; it was a dead battery. The CD player apparently ejects its disc when it unexpectedly loses power to prevent the disc getting stuck inside
I have Strong Opinions on strange things that most people don't even know exists
like whenever TO-247 is an option I'll use that over TO-220 any day
I would rather use a Microchip, Linear Technology, or Analog Devices device than a TI or Maxim one
solderless breadboards are a necessary evil but an evil nonetheless
30 mil trace width minimum when I can get away with it
SOT-23 is good, SOT-23-6 is bad
I am not a fan of TO-263s or TO-253s. (an unpopular opinion but they're hard to solder)
oh wow @VoxSomniator your icon is super cute
for some reason there aren't that many wire-to-board connectors that can handle high currents
molex makes a connector that can do 30A per contact, so I guess we can use their four-position one of those for this, just all four in parallel (they also have another series that a) looks fancier and b) has much higher current capacity but it costs like two or three times as much)
on a slightly related note why does this wire distributor have a dedicated section for specifically and only AWG #6 wire, when everything else is sorted by type of wire, not by size https://www.wireandcableyourway.com/6-gauge-wire/
where do you even buy flat-braid litz wire anyway
or any type of litz wire
our usual sources don't offer it
finally, we've found some they actually have in stock that will work for it
turns out using welding cable to wind it is probably a bad idea though so now we need to find out where to buy litz wire or something
or just make our own by braiding magnet wire or something? _that_ sure sounds like a pain
