snark, content warnings meta, subtoot

"too important to CW" makes about as much sense as "too important to add subtitles to". Content warnings are accessibility tools that make it possible for more people to usefully engage with what you're sharing.

a laserdisc player spinning up sounds kind of scary actually

you keep thinking it's almost done but it's still getting faster and louder and aa

apparently the outer edge of the disc goes at literally like 60 miles per hour or something around there

something I really appreciate about the discworld novels is how pratchett managed to make death an actual well-written character with actual personality

There are two wolves outside of you

I guess you ate all the rest or something?

Irish orthography is _weird_. But also fascinating. But also weird.

I wonder who exactly manufactures those boxes they put dvds and video games in

How did they mass produce VHS movies anyway

Did they just have one VCR playing a master tape and dozens of other ones on record or something?

I wonder why CDs and other optical media read from the inside out while records read from the outside in

our answer to the above, a couple I forgot

Oh yes, also:

Earthbound
Golden Sun (both GBA entries)
Terranigma
Secret of Mana
The original Spyro trilogy

and if we allow games that were never officially translated to english:

Mother 3
Seiken Densetsu 3

our answer to the above

We would say, in no particular order:

Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, IX, and X
Suikoden and Suikoden 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Metroid
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
A Link to the Past
Wind Waker
Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver
Tales of Symphonia
(at least one game from the Mega Man or Mega Man X series, I don't know which)
Tetris
Arkanoid (or at least Breakout)
Chrono Trigger

Additionally, @Rosemary would say Dragon Quest VIII as well, but I wouldn't--we agree on most of the rest

A question I was just thinking about:

What video games would you choose if asked to make a list of classics?

I'm not asking for your favorite games--I'm asking, what would you call a classic in the same vein as the classics of literature or film; a game that every well-read (or "well-played"?) person should be expected to have at least passing familiarity with? (assume for the purposes of this that video games are generally considered a worthy form of art (they are, but not everyone agrees))

despite the name, an inductor is not in fact a rocky hill on the inside of a waterfowl.

the way the previously highly successful RCA failed is kind of fascinating

they were just _extremely_ fixated on bringing this _extremely_ flawed video-on-vinyl format to market that it drove them to bankruptcy and no one knows that CEDs ever existed

video game music is one of my biggest interests and I want to both share this with people and just do my own analysis on it sometimes but I don't know if it's actually getting shared with people because it just feels like i never get favorites or replies to it and I know I shouldn't focus on that but it's like... I feel like I want validation? that this is an okay thing to feel so strongly about and that other people share in my enthusiasm?

sometimes I wonder, do people like seeing my intermittent VGM selection posts? I like doing them and probably won't stop but they always get very little interaction

The english language is basically two languages glued together using bits of like five other languages and then allowed to ferment for a millennium or so
