why is everyone on here so cute
you're all cute

aaagh

twisted our ankle leaving class today >.<

I don't understand companies that still give out a 7-digit phone number, even if the area code is given as a sort of extra

the area code is no longer meaningfully different from any other part of the phone number

wait there's three luigi's mansion games now

we still haven't played the first one

general politics

I get why people think tax increases are a bad thing but people really need to realize that tax increases mean the government has more money to do things with

also rich people need more taxes anyway

the joule thief circuit has a certain kludgey sort of elegance to it, if that makes sense at all

is it just me or is it really annoying when people refer to modern oscilloscopes as CROs

there is now a big CRT sitting on our computer chair and we have no room for this in our apartment why did we take it

oh right, because CRTs are neat and it was free

really need to clean up the apartment some......

because that is absolutely something toady one would do

I am watching videos about language models and generative text and now i'm wondering how long until Dwarf Fortress uses a sophisticated neural network to generate the contents of books

I would have a much higher tolerance for wacky New Age things if they didn’t inevitably end up in scammy, appropriative colonialist/really horribly ableist territory

I’m down to appreciate some cool rocks and nice scented things and just sit and think about the nature of consciousness but the minute you say some anti-vax shit I’m out thx

region-specific slurs

the existence of words that are horribly offensive slurs in British English and either completely benign or just nonexistent words in American English will never not feel _really weird_ to me

like the word spaz in the US is word for an overly rambunctious child but in the UK is a hugely offensive word for someone with cerebral palsy

and the not-word "paki" is apparently a really offensive word in the UK for someone of middle-eastern or south-asian descent, but in the US we didn't even know that it _wasn't_ the proper term for someone from pakistan until recently (the proper term, breaking the convention of other -stan countries, is "pakistanian")

Are there similar cases of words that are massively offensive in American English but are perfectly ordinary in British English? I can't think of any

(note to europeans: american apple cider is non-alcoholic unless otherwise specified, which we recently learned is not the case in europe)
