we also remember thinking that since 16 bit consoles were "better" than 8 bit ones and 64 bit ones were "better" than 16 bit ones, that that obviously meant the gamecube was a 128-bit console (it's not, it's also a 64-bit architecture)

apparently whether you play it on a widescreen display or not actually materially affects the speedrun of super mario galaxy 120 star
because you need a lot of star bits for that speedrun and you can pick up star bits by pointing the wii remote at them, but that only works for ones that are on screen, and the game has a habit of having star bits spawn in around mario/luigi while in autoscrolling segments specifically to be picked up this way. some of them spawn offscreen at 4:3 resolutions
