@astra Yeah that is a ridiculous take from DJs haha.

@sarahtaber White people, apparently, who thinks that flavour is some sort of black seiðr that requires rocket science to understand.
ok time to try out this dang thing
I would like to address the idea that "food companies have scientists whose whole job is perfecting the sweet/salty/fat flavors to make their products ADDICTIVE."
I want to know who really thinks it takes a 4-year degree to figure it out that it's awesome to fry potatoes
Tags on bandcamp are for both topics and genres. Assume a tag is a genre, and you can suppose that it means the band makes music in that genre. So apply the tag to the band, too.
But if the tag isn’t a genre (which you’d have no way of knowing without context), you’ve just created a context collapse. Which is, incidentally, the alt-right’s favorite tool for muddying the waters.
Writing songs about chocolate doesn’t make the band made of chocolate.
I can also see exactly the chain of events that would cause this to happen. The idea came from a good place, but it led to a horrible chain of events with horrible implications that had the opposite effect from the intentions.
Removing alt-right bands is a good thing! But they need to actually be alt-right!
Also I’m grateful to know someone at bandcamp who was able to get this fixed so quickly. Most people don’t have that luxury. Especially among the sorts of people who would run into this specific issue. I hope this can be fixed categorically, because I’m sure I’m not the only one to be affected this way.
This is why content moderation needs to be done by humans, not by algorithms, and why those moderation decisions need to be validated and continuously verified.
Don’t destroy someone’s livelihood because you think you’re doing the right thing without making sure!
Basically I had a song that was tagged as “alt-right” because it was critical of Trump and his followers. This led to my entire account being tagged as “alt-right” and therefore delisted as being a nazi.
Which is REALLY FUCKING IRONIC on many axes.
Since when do alt-right people self-describe as that, anyway?
This issue has been fixed thanks to a very helpful friend who works at bandcamp and was able to escalate the issue. It turns out that one of my songs was tagged with a thing that, out of context, flagged my account as questionable, and I had no way of knowing this or being warned that it’d happen.
“Content moderation gone wrong.” They’re going to figure out how to make it up to me and also hopefully this leads to a process change.
@Hearth I'd vote for Jolibee if that was an option. :P
@LexYeen Draw the most raunchiest furry porn. :3c
The 2020s are going to be defined (and have been defined) by isolation. For me, you, and everyone else-- except the people who just don't care.
Not caring is always an easy way to get through the day, but it makes me sick to my stomach, so I won't live that sort of life.
re: ethics discussion
@relee It can be, because there's no one singular definition of harm that would apply to all of existence.
re: ethics discussion
@relee This is a big reason why I am glad I don't really identify as human. Humanity, at least the white western concept of it, has been a vector of a lot oppression, and what we know as human arrogance.
re: ethics discussion
@relee I think it's important to consider that communication is a product of nurture, and not nature. It's a part of why culture is important to philosophy, but perhaps if we could find a way to help other species communicate with us in a way that we can understand unambiguously, we might have a lot to learn.
