the state has already decided that they are criminals, and is treating them as such. There’s no need to hem or haw about “they didn’t do anything wrong.” The state decides who is criminal and treats those who are deemed criminal accordingly.

The implication behind the indignant cry of “I was treated like a common criminal/they are being treated like felons” is that you think it’s OKAY to treat people who have been criminalized and people who are convicted felons like that

The indignation always comes from a place of “I have done nothing wrong, therefore, cops shouldn’t treat me this way.”

It sucks bc I do think there are plenty of ways internet culture promotes dogpiling people you don’t know who have done wrong. But the fact that this anti cancel culture thing is being lead by a white queer trying to avoid being accountable to people of colour and particularly Black folks really undermines everything connected to their work for me.
