Does anyone actually remember Burma shave signs? Or do they remember references to Burma shave signs?
The only one I remember seeing live is this:
Round the corner,
Lickity-Split
Beautiful car
Wasn't it?
Sadly, I never found the one I wanted photos of in the wild, which was detailed in the book:
Free, Free
A Trip to Mars
For Nine-Hundred
Empty Jars.
Yes, someone tried to claim it. they got a trip to Germany, I believe.
@literorrery @Fuego Yeah, there's a town somewhere in Europe that's pronounced "Mars", approximately
@literorrery @Fuego (( If you never found the one you wanted to see in the wild, you can always print it up yourself ))
@Fuego I've seen them. PA turnpike 76 had a few, as did some stretches of I-10 while I was moving to PA. I also grew up reading "The Poem on the Side of the Road."
@Fuego I remember them from a book about American cultural history, but have never seen an actual sign in the wild.
@Fuego I saw some once in Montana, though I don't remember the rhyme.
