This seed really liked the color blue.

The master sword, blue mail, blue pendant, flippers, and magic mirror were also very early on. The random bottle fill was blue potion (x2). So it literally did try to give me every blue item in the game as early as possible.

This has led to an entire metagame where folks, deliberately, set out for the wrong thing only to stumble onto the right thing. And it is kind of hilarious.

Within the monhun community, they call this the “desire sensor”. Ie, the thing you want is exactly what the game will not spawn.

It is very strong in this one.

Me: “Welp, there’s no rare spawn here. Time to leave.”
Me: *hits the leave trigger*
Rare spawn, during the outro cinematic: “‘sup”

@Kyresti I fully expect that the late-late-late stage of all of this is us boosting illegally imported fox tails and dragon hormones from Japan, while the remaining fragments of federal government incompetently stage crackdowns on shipping that greater Cascadia refuses to enforce.

Someone over on birdhellsite mentioned that they mentally replace “civility” with “obedience” to better gauge intent. Seems both accurate and useful.

@chr I do not understand why they want to mingle these data streams, when “I am a dragon on the internet” and “I prefer siloing off work from my personal time” are not mutually exclusive profiles. They even give better results when catered to separately.

@chr The creepiest thing about tracking are the identifiers that are less obvious. Like having Google+ suggest my personal profile as “someone you may know” to my family, because of some combination of scraping, geolocation, and device login.

Which is more or less why I’ve fled those platforms.

@mawr I also self-censor a lot more now in public spaces since then, though I can’t entirely disentangle that with my coping strategy from the fallings out. Not sure if I’d act the same way all other things held equal.

@mawr More. Though I’m not necessarily a good data point, given 2015 was when I fell out of my communities because of fraught issues that were, primarily, due to miscommunication.

Adjusting for that though, dropping social media for unrelated reasons counts, as does shying away from former friends that started using Pepe memes in group chats.
