Modern medical science has given us the ability to cure an incredible range of diseases, syndromes, and disorders in laboratory mice

@LensaMoon@mastodon.art @Gargron Seems reasonable. It makes sense that a special handler would be required for this - all “tweet” buttons go to Twitter but a “toot” button can’t know “your” instance without some help from the browser- but I have only ever used those buttons zero times anyway.

I have no idea how Mastodon Web itself could reasonably document this for users who aren’t software developers...

@LensaMoon@mastodon.art A service handler is a rule that tells your web browser what to do with links that start with a prefix other than “http:”or “https:”. Gmail can install a service handler so “mailto:” links open in Gmail, for example.

Presumably, Mastodon handles some kind of protocol now? @Gargron would know. Maybe it’s “toot://“, but probably not. It means that various links might ask Mastodon to do something, if you choose to install the handler.

@karma hey

hey you

Cyriak videos can often be identified by their high cat-per-cat ratio.

Let's not talk about the sheep.

@LensaMoon@mastodon.art apparently the phrase “I accidentally peed on my cat” is a surprisingly common Google search, so at least you didn’t drink the coffee first before spilling it on your cat

Wistfulness about the word draconity

"Draconity" is a term that doesn't get used much any more, I think

It was what we called the state of Being Dragon, a bit more wieldy than "otherkinness" or therianthropy

I liked that little word. It encompassed a community of people some of whom I knew, some of whom I didn't, but that always seemed to manage to avoid unnecessary conflict. When things went bad, I never saw dragons fight with tooth and claw; they retreated, invisibly, and the community got quieter and quieter until it eventually didn't hold together much any more.

But-- I feel like I sensed a core of something in those dragons that felt common and unique to them. A particular kind of quiet solidity, steadfastness within the longing, and a manifest willingness to stay childlike at heart. They didn't always say much, but when they did it was resonant and felt Real. I see it in people who call themselves dragons today, too. Other people are strong, or stoic, or playful, and in every way as good as dragons at these things, and dragons aren't always all these things; but there is a Vibe I get from them sometimes. Like the way people are protective, but a stone symbolises protection.

Perhaps to be Dragon is to clothe oneself in a certain set of symbols, an archetypal armour that moulds the self to a certain eternal pattern.

It looks like people are talking about april fools stuff so I want to say

I will not be doing anything for april fools. No pranks, no jokes, nothing.

April fools is already hard on people with anxiety. If you see this, please consider making a statement that you won't do anything for april fools, so that people like myself can be a little more comfortable that day, and not have to dread it as much.

This goes doubly for instance admins. Please don't change the site suddenly without warning.

@green I just find it hilarious watching a team of bureaucrats try to formally define what "food, but not, like, cooked food" means, because they take something that can be expressed very easily to almost anyone ("food, but not, like, cooked food") and cannot express it in less than ten pages of... that

@JulieSqveakaroo Absolutely! For example, pumpkins are presumed to be a food or food ingredient unless the pumpkin is sold painted or is otherwise clearly for decorative purposes rather than consumption.

Okay so maybe the answer to your question is actually "no"

IMPORTANT PSA:

Items that are commonly ingested or chewed by humans for their taste or nutritional value but which may also be used for other purposes are generally treated as food or food ingredients.

Not many have seen m∅rr1s, but the wyrm's name spreads far and wide.

Platform X that happened to gather people talking about sex work is legally different from platform Y that formed in response to the marginalization of sex workers consequent to a law explicitly trying to target those aiding and abetting sex work.

I see a lot of calls to start new online spaces for sex workers to meet and discuss things because they’ve been kicked off of existing mainstream places

This seems dangerous. Purpose-made places cannot be a haven, they are obvious for the FBI to raid, anywhere in the world. Anything grassroots is going to be much too small to mount an effective legal defense.

I fear all that will happen is people self-sorting into easily-identified pods small enough to jail.

Mastodon is rapidly reminding me that several of my co-workers are fabulous queer people and I should possibly be a little less afraid of what happens if I try to act more like me at my day job
