Tangent from Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack; this book I picked up about Egyptian boats starts with a timescale for reference. I’m really interested in Mycenaeans and their civilization cranks along about 1200-800 BCE, so during the… New Kingdom.

Egypt is OLD.

Throwing up the horns, head banging and cheering „Nicht stören! NICHT STÖREN!“ during the “Map Room Dawn” music from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

There’s no tsugaru cover of “One,” but I could find an awesome shamisen cover of “Master of Puppets.”

So…

I dunno… sohei or shukenja?

See most film makers in the 1930s and 1940s had glasses and took them off to smooch, so the apparent stylistic choice of soft focus was actually their attempt to lend extra believability to the romantic scenes.

"Dredd Song" is such an archetypical Cure song and it's just mindboggling that they wrote it for a Judge Dredd movie with Stallone, which is not exactly smoking cloves on nostalgic autumn days territory, y'know?

this broad bean/pickled vegetable sauce I picked up at Asian Family Food Center is great, but REALLY SOUR, enough that I added in some sugar to take the edge off a little.

ADHD Mastodon; do you ever feel bad, not because you’ve done anything wrong, are despised, or anything especially bad which your brain is throwing at you, but more because you’re doing something that just isn’t compelling and you’re kinda stuck with it for hours? That feels like an ADHD thing.

@chimerror but has it inspired you to try dancing like Cab

specifically, as rotoscoped over by the Fleischers, with added squash and stretch

the transience of the world, as illustrated by going to bed underneath very loud stampeding small children but feeling pretty okay, and waking up several hours later from a nightmare with acid reflux but, it's quiet.

@topaz Sleepy, actually around bedtime for a change. The last few days have been hard going but I feel like I'm coping better than I would have even last month.

Congrats on all the activity!

small children running and yelling hour. At least they're not unhappy and getting an adult screaming at them; that was incredibly upsetting.

I think I've mellowed out about Valentine's Day. I mean yeah there's overcommercialized pressuring heteronormative gross, but that's mostly just capitalism. And love - romantic or other - is at least something I like, by comparison to how most of our holidays are about how you should enlist, y'know?

celebrating Valentine's Day by listening to The Meld from ST:TMP, because nothing says true love like abandoning your corporeal form to join with a nigh omnipotent machine whose immense RAM space now includes code for someone you had a crush on

not ME having a little crying jag to movie music

the quest to draw cars better continues, and there's improvement but I'm not about to be the next Doug Chiang anytime soon.

ZOOTOPIA V. PREDATOR. Judy Hopps is a tough cop who thought she'd seen everything the big city had to offer - until SOMETHING from off planet decided to set itself up as the new King of Beasts! (2024, R, 126 min)

I’m not like them, but I can pretend
The sun is gone, but I have a light
The day is done, I’m having fun,
I think I’m dumb, or maybe just happy.

re: crass, gross

@frost This is would you believe a reference to uh... something less worthy of nostalgia from the 90s. Here's a REALLY BAD QUALITY recording.
