@xinjinmeng question, how do you get your keyboard to show pinyin?

@anthracite so wait D&D vancian magic relates to serious theory?

Google suggests “chariot” as”zhan che” which makes sense, analogous to huoche, gonggongqiche, etc. Definitely a noun I need.

wait THAT'S Porter Robinson? he looks like Rowan Atkinson trying to portray an early 60s vintage Paul McCartney or George Harrison for the express purpose of being funny/getting laid

re: uspol, palestine

@garbados@friend.camp I'd actually wonder whether part of it is a goodwill thing, "see we bought your stock, please hire our engineering graduates."

"This is my blessing. This is my curse. Who am I? I'm SPIDAH MANG."

*crouches dramatically*

"Sir, this is a Starbucks."

need to remember;

my pre-college experience was being taught that I wasn't good enough at what my parents, teachers and peers wanted, and that if there was something I might be good at, it was unsupported or unacknowledged compared to what these other people wanted as exemplified by The Good Kids, which taught me if I were somehow good enough things would be intentionally revamped so I wasn't. And, as a result of being what someone else judged to be innately flawed, my safety and comfort was always in danger. I can see how all these cases match "this was intentional frequently enough to teach me these were hard and fast rules about how life worked.

Consequently, being out of work really stomps on those buttons and leads me to deep-seated despair on a nigh daily basis.

Used to be my analogy was, okay, so little humorous posts, photos of cute animals, and short updates from friends is a pretty solid social media, like Coke as a beverage. Which is why people try to sell you Coke as a way to make red velvet cake or degrease engines, anything other'n actually drink the stuff.

Except now, Coke is new Swasticola and everyone's trying to decide which generic supermarket version they would prefer. Big K Cola? Never heard of it.

fake movie joke, mostly about soundtracks, but mentions horrific violence

TOON VERSUS PREDATOR! They said there was no way to kill a toon... and then SOMETHING started leaving headless, spineless cartoon bodies scattered around post-war Glendale. Tough detective Eddie Valiant (Danny Glover) is on the case! Features a stirring soundtrack by Alan Silvestri!

@irisjaycomics oooh, they're about to be up in Bham and then they're down in Vancouver! I can drive to both! OH YEAAAAH

@zetasyanthis Thanks! It's more standard iteration bad, today; I dumped a lot of time and energy into job hunting, a couple of phone screens and lining up interviews for later this week, and after I got done, got hit with a lot of despair about how little future there is even if I manage to get something and make it through. Getting a froo-froo coffee and studying a little bit really helped.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes This guy, who must make his living as a caretaker, occasionally shows up with his charges at this coffeeshop I like and did so today. The most recent person he takes there is sort of loud but basically well intentioned (he had one client in the past, who I thought might actually injure him). Since *she* doesn't mean any harm, and *he's* an older Black dude who reads as very blue collar, I can suck it up.

Today’s Chinese nobody included in this language book; “senlin” and “shu,” which I sorta need to know…

If I physically survive this summer I’m gonna be that much more emotionally robust, but it’s still an if rn

@GoodNewsGreyShoes High school was terrible in a lot of ways, but different from grade school. Gifted classes were one of the more benign things about *that* crummy situation.

@frost "A wolf shall devour the sun, and this will be counted a great misfortune. A second wolf shall devour the moon and this, too, shall cause great mischief." So similar...

... you notice nobody mentions which of the two wolves eats what. Except here's where it gets interesting; vikingr.org/other-beings/skoll

@GoodNewsGreyShoes Hard to say. My grade school was crap, but it wouldn't have gotten me labeled as weird the same way (and of course, I wouldn't have had the terrible crap from the gifted classes). Now I'm not sure whether it was grades 4-5 or just grade 5, because that's how much memory loss was involved.

@frost Here we go, it's in stanza 51 of the Voluspa

voluspa.org/gylfaginning51-54.

their translation is different from the one I memorized, they give;

"the wolf shall swallow the sun; and this shall seem to men a great harm. Then the other wolf shall seize the moon, and he also shall work great ruin"
