so wait if Warren Zevon "saw Lon Cheney walking with the Queen" doesn't that imply that he's not so much a Wolf-Man and more accurately a Corgi-Man?

@LilahTovMoon I'll breathe a sigh of relief when I read his obituary.

"YES, SIMBA?"

"Well we rule from Pride Rock, right?"

"YES, MY SON."

"Are we... you know..." *hand gesture*

"UH. UM. REALLY WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT WHAT DUTIES A KING HAS TO HIS SUBJECTS."

"I mean there's Uncle Scar, he's like eight on the Kinsey scale."

usopl -, have I mentioned recently how much I fucking hate Republicans?

The whole "Haitian immigrants eat pets" bugs me worse than I originally thought, anti-Blackness has nearly always been crucial to the GOP;

Pretty sure the sheer over the top nature is a deliberate ploy to make less ridiculous claims ("they're dirty and shoplift") more believable.

There's always the chance they'll sour communities enough that at some point Haitian expats will riot or w/e so they can point and go SEE?

Last, just the open ugliness of even a flimsy excuse working for what they want to do.

TACO BELL AD: It's time for a new era of chicken, a zesty quesadilla era, a...

ME: a red day, a chicken day, ere the sun's rising! Ride now, ride now, ride to Gondor!

“In the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair”

Oh boy Cirith Ungol, just where I go to meet girls. Let me guess, shapely undershot jaw with huge tusks, eyes the most radiant shade of red, delts out to here?

realizing that I hate the "all furries are brilliant super ultra professionals" because it's basically the "all disabled people heroically overcome spectacular obstacles" trope - which is its own iteration of bad, and which I tend to miss under "oh great someone's expecting me to be a smart success for them/has just implied or told me I don't belong in the GOOD people."

the DEN OF EVIL!

you could say it's pretty much the heart of the Split Level of Elemental Evil since it's right between The Garage of Chaos and the Kitchen of Danger, and also there's the Laundry Doom

@frost Old movie, from the 80s. I liked it, anyway. There's a musical number where the goblin king sings to the child he's abducted (and is going to turn into a goblin).

this in turn gets me to the goblin songs in the Rankin-Bass "The Hobbit"

and again, I love how most of the songs in that movie are happy "let's play hackey sack on the Diag then see if Truth House has that tofu salad I like", and then the goblins show up and their songs are all "OH YEAH FLOGGING"

@frost please PLEASE tell me you've seen Labyrinth...

and then in this ad for baby food this woman kept saying "my baby" and obviously this is the cue to listen to Dance Magic Dance again

slap that magic dance on me
slap that baby, make him pee

one of my favorite just weird random facts is how Julius Fucik's "Entry of the Gladiators" got associated with clowns. For a while it was a cue to alert circus folks that something had gone wrong without alerting the audience, and in that case the clowns would come out and do their thing for as long as it took to get stuff back under control. (This might not be true but I like the idea.)

"have you ever wondered what happens [in Tolkien] when characters sail to the Undying Lands?"

well I assume they don't die.

Rain Dog boosted

Hey Bay Area critters!

Do y'all take BART? Do you ever wish you had live info on when you'll get to your destination, or how much time you have on the platform to make a transfer, or whether a transfer is faster than going direct?

I made just the thing for you! (Well, really mostly for us, but I figure others might find it useful as well.)

It's fast (ish), it's super lightweight since it's completely server-side, and it should work on just about anything. Check it out!

I'm currently in one of those "I am shit from shit people" headspaces. It will pass, I just have to sit it out, but it's never easy.

@amagire that's the thing. I'm not really sure about portion size at Mekong Village. It's not like how lately eating out has been $22-25 but I'm good for basically the day.

@Chip_Unicorn I think they should make one with Orca. Her super thing is literally that she's an orca which I think gives her a lot of depth, I don't just want a movie about her so I can have lurid sexual fantasies.

@Cheff I checked the recipe for bun bo hue, and it includes a lot of ingredients which I've never used before (and which are probably part of why a bowl of it would cost $16 - so I guess it's $20 with tax and tip, maybe more, not $18). So I think this is definitely a thing for a special occasion sometime.
