What gets me is Sanjuro, Aliens, and Mad Max Fury Road are perfect sequels; they get exactly the feel of the original while telling a related yet very different story. How do you peg that different-enough energy?
Hey kids, want a hot take about furry fandom?
Furry fandom is actually *less* like comics and sci fi fandom, and more like filkers (you're pretty much already a fan), model railroaders and tabletop roleplaying gamers (there's some big companies whose content gets a following, but for the most part it's pretty DIY).
This gets fiddly when you make sequels because it means being in love with the first movie, so the energy's different.
It makes sense you'd try to make lightning strike the same way twice and fail (James Cameron, Wachowski sisters).
Clearly a new person can fall in love and make an awesome sequel eg (Aliens) but they too can fail (Last Jedi). I'm not quite sure how you manage to pull off that "I'm in love with [first movie] and pull on [first movie's inspiration b/c it's still awesome stuff]."
Starting to think there's a really fiddly balance in movie-making.
If you're in love with something, it'll show through in your movie and grab viewers; Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bladerunner, The Matrix, Young Frankenstein (which I think really works because unlike other Brooks tributes, he's legit trying to make his own Frankenstein movie).
Just practice off reference right now,, trying to figure out more about #drawing architecture. I knew how to do this, but I didn’t know I knew how until I drew a batch, I’m happy about that.

so my housemate was playing a batch of 80s, and offered to play something 90s to make up for it. *They* suggested RAtM, not me, but yeah, that's way more me. Because yeah, fuck the 80s for being an era of shitty abuse, whitewashed murder, and fucking collaboration.
Who controls the past now controls the future.
Who controls the present now controls the past.
Who controls the past now controls the future,
Now testify!

There was a TV show in 1984 called "Turbo Teen"
It featured a teenager who accidentally got caught in a government experiment and ended up being able to turn into a sports car
Yes, really

So the CDC is slashing international disease prevention programs by 80%, because the funding’s not there (rather than due some direct decision by 45 appointees). When I was younger I thought I’d go from my family’s trend towards heart disease, but now I’m increasingly convinced that I’ll die as a result of this administration’s shitty budget, environmental policy, police or supporters, and I really resent them for this.

So I’ve been really angry about politics (and associated stuff, like hate crimes and birdsite/Facebook collaboration) lately. I think what this might be is I had so much crushing my emotions and personality at New Tech, that my current anger at the situation reflects having more energy in general.
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
