A minor minor body image thing;

My hair reflects my ancestry, and my mother used to go on about the curls in my hair (especially after she finished chemo), and as such, when my hair is between “regulation length” and “grew out for months” is messy and I have real mixed feelings about it.

Meanwhile I see all these photos of trans friends whose hair is about as tangly messy as mine, yet they don’t seem bothered by this at all.

The workday’s finally over and I hope to catch some shut eye on the bus. I might be missing only 30-120 minutes of sleep each night but it adds up especially while sick! I wish there were a good place to catnap at the day job.

Something I think is neat; one of my fave movies ever, The Thirteenth Warrior, has a lot of callbacks to a different favorite movie, The Seven Samurai. I realized recently that Jerry Goldsmith’s soundtrack, which is otherwise its own thing, uses wordless male chorus as a reference to the similar chorus used to denote the villagers’ misery in Samurai!

Oh yeah and it’s 2018 not 2017. I blame 45, I’m gonna be saying we’re in 2017 two years from now.

I’d postulate “Geek Culture” is an attempt to easily define pattern and identity in an increasingly more chaotic mass of information, but also y’gotta ask who makes bank off that?

Counter example, if I say “intellectuals must love Kurosawa, Bergman and Leone” that’s obnoxious at worst, but if TOHO says all intellectuals must love them, and coincidentally Toho happens to own a batch of Bergman and Leone films, that’s not exactly a sheer love for high falutin’ film.

See to me the point of Liking Geek Stuff is it appeals to you and HAPPENS to be geeky. It’s like my Dad’s pseudo intellectualism; you like Verdi, Dvorak, Stravinsky et al because that’s the good shit, not because it’s intellectual shit. The need to live genuinely in the short time I have; Circle Jerks, Against Me and Rollins Band do the same things for me as Sibelius and Schostakovich. Look it’s 2017, do what you will is the whole of the law, an it harm none. (1/2)
