Autism, random question
Disclaimer: I'm not used to talking about Autism, let alone about my having it. If I ever say something Awkward or not good or anything, please let me know and I will remedy it <3
Gods, is feeling like you're an alien a very autistic experience, I wonder?
Autism, random question
@Cobalt oh my gosh yes
Autism, random question
@Oneironott Very... Most of the time I feel like a tesseract talking to a square.
Autism, random question
@Roady_Dragonfae @Oneironott Y E S
Ugh yes
I tried to explain this to my partner once as being sort of like how spice trance works in the Dune novels, except I do it all the time and nobody else sees the larger pattern or path I do so they can't understand what my choices are steering toward. But I can't move at all WITHOUT that larger view. It's all or nothing.
Nobody told me, "Consider maybe it's autism: hypervigilant trauma type." 😬

@Cobalt @Roady_Dragonfae jhdjghsja,clskfg fuck
Autism, random question
@Oneironott @Roady_Dragonfae I spent years hanging online with #ActuallyAutistic ppl and thinking, "idk what people's problem is. These folks are great friends and they don't question the weird things I need because for SURELY UNRELATED REASONS they have their own and so we just accept our biz. And nobody thinks I'm a bitch, or if they do they are glad for clarity that if I have Bad Feeling it'll be obvious. So nice to be the token allistic!"
lmao No
Autism, random question
@Cobalt @Oneironott Exactly. What's worse is when they try slapping you with prejudices, infantilize you, and turn your quirks into insecurities.
It's as if they can only perceive a disability if it's physical. The whole "I can't see it so it must he made up" schtik that's so typical of a two-dimensional being.
Autism, random question
@Cobalt @Oneironott Honestly. I try my damndest to avoid calling it a disability. Seeing things nobody else can see, being in tune with the universe on a transcendental level, is a gift. But society frames it as something bad.
Autism, random question
@Roady_Dragonfae @Oneironott Heh, that's a fascinating metaphor. :-)
Autism, random question
@Roady_Dragonfae @Oneironott Er, analogy. Whatever. :-)
Autism, random question
@Oneironott it is an extremely autism, yes
For me, I always felt like a poorly designed AI that was having to rebuild all of its own operating parameters moment by moment. I had to use the ones I started with to find problems with those same rules, values, definitions, etc, while also keeping them around enough to evaluate potential upgrades.
It's hard building myself using the same instance of the software I'm working on, with no backups.
