The diner had the stillness of an evening silence hanging over it, excepting for the visible tension in the conversation amongst the four kobolds sharing a booth.
"You see, if we overlap the fractions of six and four just so, we can get more variations of toppings across the slices of eighths..", the green kobold noting the arrangement of mushroom, olives, and pineapple across the pizza diagram he'd produced.
The blue and purple kobold seemed reasonably placated, once each had confirmed that particular combinations would be available.
With the long sigh of frustration, the red kobold repeated his explanation, "It's rude to ask for anything more complicated than half of one and half another; diagrams make no change to this.", motioning towards the kitchen, "There's cooks in there, remember."

"Work" is defined as an activity directed towards a goal
I'd say "play" is the opposite of that - any activity that you do for the sake of the activity itself, without aiming towards a "goal"
We have this idea that work is for adults, play is for kids. As we grow up, we turn everything into a goal-directed activity.
We play a sport to win, or to stay healthy. We draw to create something beautiful. We cook to make food. We climb an obstacle to get to the other side. We read a book to finish it. We watch a movie in the evening to relax, and then are confused when we can't.
Capitalism brainwashes you into thinking that you've grown out of playing. It wants you to think that you can't possibly enjoy an activity for its own sake anymore, so you need an "incentive"
Don't fall for it, and play as often as you can

Enough of the Towers have fallen that I'm getting concerned that the nature of the world is starting to get kinda wibbly.
@anthracite Yes. I know where they used to hide their weed, they stopped using that spot before I was even born. Dropping that would be impossible for ten-year-old me to know.
