@anthracite Same. Something about having a bunch of distinct threads for any number of specific subjects, along with no expectation of doing things particularly quickly just made it that much easier to actually *discuss* things.

Like, a lot of our infrastructure, and the stuff we use in our daily lives is practically -designed- to waste resources - just doing things differently on that scale (e.g. avoiding using plastic where we can help it, building appliances to last for a long time, making cities pedestrian friendly and prioritizing public transportation over cars, etc etc etc) would already go a long-ass way without actually making our lives any less comfortable (and hell, probably more so in some ways).

@kd@yiff.life @Webster@snouts.online I mean, I feel the point of it isn't that we're not supposed to change our consumption habits; it's that the current upper crust's existence makes enacting that change from the bottom up completely impossible, and destroying said access to fossil fuels would spur the necessary changes towards running society in a sustainable manner, along with forcing the people too ass-deep in the fossil fuel industry's propaganda to change their habits anyway.

@IrisKalmia Yeah. It worked with Minecraft because it was an innocuous thing made by a horrible person, but Harry Potter and the US are progressively (far, far) less so, and at that point it just takes away responsibility.
Of course however, expecting the internet as a whole to make subtle distinctions like that is a fool's errand.
