re: sad, back to remembering the 90s
@Fuego @typhlosion @Felthry Yeah, I feel this. I was there for the tail end of it myself, and... yeah. There was hope. There was far more room for self-expression - many if not most ISPs at the times offered complimentary space for personal web pages, up until the early-mid '00s. There was so much more you could do to make a computer, or really most any other piece of technology unmistakably -yours-, even if it just meant getting a new cover for your indestructible brickphone. And beyond that there was just a general sense of... even if things suck now, things will be alright in the future.
These days it's pretty much the exact opposite of all of that.
re: old-school tinfoil hat time here
@chimerror @zebratron2084 I feel this. Like, even if it was a genuine attempt at a dogwhistle? The whole point of those is to be recognizable to the target audience, and nobody else. If you find yourself *actively* doing fuzzy mathematics to check if something could *potentially* be a dogwhistle or not, you're just playing into their hands at that point by helping drive others into paranoia.
re: Character meme, voluptuous sneks
@SangriaSnake Has totally moonlit as an airship before after blowing herself up particularly huge.
@irisjaycomics act 1: hey, watch these kids dick around with this weird game they found
act 6: anime -wishes- it could have a plot this bombastic
@irisjaycomics homestuck was only the beginning
kinda long?
@SwooshyCueb I think it's partially because the whole anchoring musical tastes into whatever you were listening to back then is both a product of it being the time you first start really actively paying attention to music (which for me at least was a lot earlier than that) and also only really "works" if you have positive memories from that time to anchor that all to (something us queer millennials especially tend to y'know, not have).
Then again, I suppose it's also better explained as "these will be your musical tastes for the rest of your life, with only minor changes to come" and more as "this period of time will have a great impact of what elements in music you'll be listening for, along with your tastes in music in general along with any other major formative experiences you may have later in life".
I always get confused whenever an app displays the time for something I just sent as "in 0s" like, there's clearly code for things being sent into the future, but what's even the use case for it
like do developers want to make sure they don't crash the phones of time travelers, have I been using a tachyonic antitelephone all along without realizing, or what
trans, take on medicalist terminology
@kiilas it always just comes off as a thinly veiled way to call trans women men and trans men women to me, tbh
@dzuk funny how they keep describing an ideal world whenever they try to scare people into voting for them
