This is on the edge of be discourse, but the biggest compromise I have to make in consuming new-ish media that is generally better about things like gender, orientation, and race, is that there is a preponderance of young bodies, and I am old and fat.

I can identify with characters, there are incredible stories (current obsession: visual novels), but they are frequently the stories of very talented young people finding their voice.

So there is always a distance, and it's hard to see myself.

@typhlosion i'm old, so everything i like is hopelessly problematic.

there's a way to nod at the icky bits and still get on with our lives.
