Buuut my favorite *punk genre is one that barely exists. "Voltpunk" or "teslapunk". Early 20th century electricity and industry stuff. :-)

I know what you mean about the novelty wearing off. I'd still want to do a draft or something myself, but I'm also wary because I don't normally play Magic, and I could easily get overwhelmed with people who are very /good/ at it, or overly competitive.
Which is why I don't play at my store either. :-P
