wildlife rehab: baby bird feeding (training edition)

CW covers the context! feeding baby birds looks like it's going to be particularly interesting and satisfying for me, though we'll see how I feel about it after a couple of months--I expect I'll be happy to get back to the variety of tasks upstairs once August rolls around. we have a couple of "mystery jellybeans" in the nursery that are "probably crows," though nobody knows for sure, but they're *big*--6" long?--and *hungry*. XD

@anthracite I recognize that neighborhood! :D say hi to the ducks for me!

We're at a "dinosaur gallery" and I would unironically hang this in my room tbh

(image: a landscape painting, but it includes two long-necked dinosaurs walking by a shoreline, beneath a pale lavender sky)

@anthracite ooooh, I didn't even know that was a thing! I'm going to have to look for it, I really enjoyed the book. :D

@Leucrotta I 100% approve of whatever you need to do for self-care, hon. <3

#WINSday

overcame an unruly digestive system to go to Costco and pick up a Rx they'd been bugging me about, as well as a couple of things off the list. also got my chorethings for the day done!

US Politics, Net Neutrality (+++)

The Senate passed the Congressional Review Act to reverse the FCC's repeal of net neutrality under Ajit Pai. :D

@cute_weeds although we frequently force them into actions that end up destroying or severely injuring them.

... now I'm thinking of those "pick your parts" junkyards and kind of shuddering...

@cute_weeds that's an interesting line of thought... are we car parasites?

discourse ™ and fandom thoughts

so I found this where someone else put it and I have Thoughts

mostly that while capitalism commodifies it because it commodifies EVERYTHING, storytelling has been a massive part of human cultures since we invented stories

it's been a huge part of how we understand and contextualize the world and a huge part of how we entertain ourselves for a very long time

food, fruit

I am about to tragically overindulge in strawberries

remember me fondly

@Leucrotta *sends much gentle empathy and wards against brainworms*

"its algorithm will mute certain users so their tweets fall behind a “see more replies” link and their content will no longer be searchable. Del Harvey, vice president of trust and safety at Twitter, said to Slate that the primary factors will be how many complaints, blocks, and mutes an account receives"

nope, no way that will be weaponized against women, POC, queer folx....

no way at all
