@anthracite huh... I'm thinking I should pick that up at some point, it looks/sounds intriguing.
Piracy was everything from naval militias defending port towns to slavery abolitionists, there was a black samurai in the 1500s known as Yasuke, and Charley Packhurst was a one-eyed, female-assigned-at-birth, male-presenting hardass who famously ran stagecoaches. History books are big fat bricks of whitewash.
spiders
the funny thing is that I can remember having had a dream about almost exactly that, suddenly realizing I was covered in tiny baby spiders and being deeply cuted and concerned and trying hard to brush them off while not hurting them. good to know that's exactly how my conscious mind reacts too!
spiders
@kobold only mildly! like, maybe a dozen or so? XD I think most of them had dispersed already...
spiders
to which my reaction was "d'awwww, lookit the tiny baby spiders!" and then to be as careful as possible about brushing them off and not squishing them. I've probably brought at least a half-dozen of them inside with me, and I may have several still crawling around on me somewhere, but they were SO CUTE AND TINY. XD
also the crow was extremely pleased with the peanubs. ^___^
spiders
a crow came to the porch railing and gave me The Look, so I went outside and refilled the suet feeder and put out peanuts. while I was out there I felt spiderwebs, which didn't seem unusual until I realized that a spider egg clutch had hatched on either the suet or the hummingbird feeder, and there were dozens of tiny spiders all over the porch, about the size of a pinhead, many of them dangling from the suet feeder. I then realized I was mildly covered in tiny baby spiders.

slow cooker rookie troubleshooting (specifically: chicken stew/soup)
@mmsword *nodnod* okay... Spouse prefers breast meat to thighs; I personally think thighs have a better taste. I'll give the thighs a try and see how it works, and what Spouse thinks. thank you! :D
slow cooker rookie troubleshooting (specifically: chicken stew/soup)
so I found this amazing recipe, which is basically chicken (cut into 1" cubes), vegetables, chicken stock, and spices, and the result is uniformly fantastic *except* that the chicken keeps coming out dry and chewy. is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
Church Outbreak, the new tabletop game sensation
@kara@occult.camp @zebratron2084 "on your turn you may force another player to sacrifice a martyr" eheheeheheheheh but of course I'm imagining it as a horrible competitive game, like Civ or Monopoly, in which you try to make the Most Virulent Religion Take Over Humanity. XD
Church Outbreak, the new tabletop game sensation
@zephasaurus_hex @kara@occult.camp this right here is me saying I would gladly help playtest this because YES.
Church Outbreak, the new tabletop game sensation
@kara@occult.camp oh FUCK YEAH. hey @zebratron2084 LET'S MAKE A RELIGION-BUILDING BOARD GAME. 8D if for no other reason than I want to have an actual "sacrificing a martyr" mechanic.
