one of the hardest parts of getting back into writing after an extended break, for me, is getting past the point of being horrified by the quality of what I'm writing. as with most skills, if I stop writing for a while, I get out of practice. getting back into practice is painful, because I can see just how badly I'm doing, even while I'm having to push myself to keep going. the only way past it is through, but that's a hard road to climb with depressive tendencies.

okay! Pooka is home, smells like rubbing alcohol 'cause they took some blood samples. dx is allergy to something, who knows what--not fleas, 'cause he doesn't have any bites--rx is short course of steroids & a specific kind of over-the-counter anti-allergy med, which I don't have but will probably get tonight. no infection, he's otherwise in really good health for being 11 years old. :D

just today while eating my lunch, I saw one crow, one starling, and two chickadee fledglings. it's easy to tell which ones are fledglings--they make a lot of noise, and the parents fly back and forth grabbing food to stuff down the kids' throats as fast as possible. XD

got an appointment for today at 2. most stressful part of doing that will almost certainly be arranging the ride there with Lyft. one of the few times I really wish I had access to a car, but I can't carry a cat carrier to the bus stop, much less all the way to the vet. Pooka would deal with it better than Nar (and isn't nearly as heavy), but still. le sigh...

@kara_dreamer@witches.town I used to be much more active, then went through a mostly-dormant period for several years. I'm trying to build myself up into more spiritual/magical activity/awareness, but doing it gradually and consciously, rather than diving in the deep end (again).

@kara_dreamer@witches.town hee, yeah. hie's a shapeshifter/illusionist/trickster, canonically genderfluid (both father *and* mother), and generally not interested in being tethered to any particular portfolio. Loki does what Loki wants, dammit. XD

and now, time to call the vet to make an appointment for Pooka... he's okay, mostly healthy, just has a sore on his chin that he keeps scratching open, and I want them to check that out. I'm really not looking forward to the possibility of having him wear a cone, but if it's needed... :P

@kara_dreamer@witches.town amusingly enough, I'm also dedicated to Thoth (though I call him Djwty), though I'm not actively practicing religion, magic, or spirituality as such--just kind of doing my own thing, with occasional guidance. ;)

@kara_dreamer@witches.town a couple years ago I had a dream about the Marvel universe Loki, which ended up turning into a 60k-word fanfic (which I really need to get back to work on), and meanwhile my muse took on the aspect of Marvel-Loki. I call hir "Loki-in-my-head," because hie's assured me repeatedly that hie's not a god--but Loki would do that, wouldn't hie? :P
