it should focus on providing its users a safe, stable, reliable place to form a community, and allow users to join organically
trying to emulate other systems by incorporating their flaws is a terrible idea and guess against the whole ethos behind most people who came here

one thing i like about being an admin on Masto is knowing that I'm not doing free shit for a companies profit
like, it's one of the most frustrating things as a reddit mod, bc the site ultimately couldn't run without us and yet we make no money and get no respect. Facebook groups are the same way, as well as a number of other social networking sites
