@zebratron2084 I have--fondness for Laika, and if we can work out a recipe for a Schadenfreude Flip I'd be happy to dedicate many to you/them. ;)

@mawr @KitRedgrave@glitch.social blargh, sorry that aspect of that particular neighborhood hasn't changed since we lived up there... >___<

Day of Trans Day of Visibility Day (Thoughts)

if people express anger about TDOV, it's probably anger that this world/society makes it unsafe for people to be the gender they feel. it's definitely what makes me angry! it's *not* anger at you for not feeling safe to speak up. I am angry at the boot that is crushing you, not at you for being crushed. it's okay. you don't have to be visible to us to be valid. you don't have to be 100% anything to be valid. <3

Day of Trans Day of Visibility Day (Thoughts)

basically, if you're wondering if you qualify, YOU PROBABLY DO. if you didn't, you wouldn't *wonder*! if the idea of anybody being *certain* that the gender they were assigned at birth was the *correct* one kind of boggles your brain, you qualify! if you haven't told anybody but a few of your closest friends (or nobody at all) and you still don't feel safe/comfortable telling, you don't have to! it's still your day!

Day of Trans Day of Visibility Day (Thoughts)

part of the problem is that there are BOTH degrees of transness AND degrees of closetedness, and so it can be difficult for one to feel that one is "far enough" along either of those sliders to "qualify." these are further complicated by matters of safety, needing-to-make-a-living-ness, and jumping through the many burning hoops of Medical Gatekeeping.

Considering my previous toot about English-American translations went absolutely woolly, here's some more:

British: "I hear what you say"
American: "You're wrong, shut up"

British: "With the greatest respect..."
American: "You're a fucking idiot"

British: "That's a very brave proposal"
American: "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING YOU LUNATIC"

British: "I would suggest..."
American: "You will do this or be sanctioned"

Oh no I'm visible today

@Aradia@mastodon.social hihihihihi!! :D

I view TDoV as less "make yourself visible" and more "a day to remind people that we do, in fact, exist, whether we are out or not"

Trans Day Of Visibility Day

in case I was invisible to you, I'm--genderweird. IT'S GODDAMN COMPLICATED OKAY. but I'm pretty sure I qualify, despite my general attitude towards genger being best summed up as "no thank you." AND YES IT'S GENGER NOT GENDER BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW SHUT UP I'M DRINKING COFFEE

tdov // transgender day of visibility

let me be visible to you like this, by sharing that we have always been here. our forebearers span humanity across all its history: we have been rulers and priests, mystics and negotiators; everywhere we have been everything, dauntless against eons of genocide. every breath we take honors those who came before, and those who will come after. you do not need to be visible to the cis; you are already visible to yourself. you are triumph cast in flesh ❤️

Now that I can "pass" and I can opt out of this double-edged holiday, there's a sense of obligation to make myself visible as a show of solidarity to my trans siblings, no matter where they fall in the continuum that is gender. Those who don't blend into the background, those who feel too afraid to even present as their true selves, need to be celebrated on this and every day, because it's so, so hard to be there.

You're beautiful and strong and brave, and I love you. I hope today is good.

@catoutofbed@octodon.social this is the kind of thing that happens at conventions. there used to be a guy who did interviews in the elevators on Saturday nights... he'd bring in a couple of chairs, a potted plant, and a video person, and they'd just interview whoever got into the elevator and was willing to be filmed, on whatever they could come up with.

Important Warning: All transgender people are advised that their invisibility spells, invisibility cloaks, etc. might fail intermittently today due to calendarial interference. Be extra careful if you're criming or need some time alone.

Stay safe out there!

X-files, Scully shooting things

I always loved that dichotomy, that Mulder was the sensitive curious "no but let's hear this out" person, and Scully was the "nope this is bullshit I'ma shoot it now" person.

X-files, Scully shooting things

Spouse has just embarked on binge-watching X-Files (dunno if old or new version), and I'm reminded of one of the few episodes I watched, the one written by William Gibson, of which I remember basically two scenes.

Mulder, on finding the sekrit lair of whoever and being approached by a strange robot-thing: "ooh, what is this, I don't" *is zapped unconscious*

Scully, in same situation: "oh HELL NO" BANG BANG BANG BANG

An Americana Hymnal For The Doomsday Cult Of 'Facebook'

@LexYeen I have so many reasons to dislike spring. I don't hate it as much as I hate summer, but spring is the harbinger of summer, as well as the season of LOL PLANT SEMEN FOR EVERYONE!!! neither of which I find particularly endearing. :|

* slight stuffiness
* mild throat ache
* light nasal drip
= ????? (stupid plant bukakke)
