Mastodon is built on a system that isn't appropriate for private conversation and the work arounds for private toots and the like are not in any way robust against someone just ignoring them.

so there's this thing when I'm playing my Taurens in WoW where I sometimes get "stuck in a door" by hitting the frame on one side, moving too far to the other side and hitting the other side of the frame, and have to do this wiggle-back-up dance to actually get through the doorway
