saw the coyote again--now less sure that it isn't Scruffy; if it is, Scruffy's been doing better this year and is looking, well, less scruffy. but this one has black "freckles" across its face that I don't remember Scruffy having. also, Scruffy looked more like a husky-coyote hybrid; this one just looks like a scruffy coyote. maybe Scruffy2?
aaaand just now heard the crow "asshole alert" and looked out to see a coyote trotting along, hoping for handouts from the person down on the first floor who throws out bread bits twice a day. her ideal is to feed the ducks, but most of the time she feeds squirrels, crows, and coyotes... I don't think it was Scruffy; it was scruffy-looking, but not in the same way that Scruffy looks scruffy. might be a new visitor to the territory!
Nar was so excited about the sudden abundance of crows that he ran down the hall howling. and then ate most of Pooka's breakfast. XD
dreams (serious arachnophobia cw)
lots of dreams, most of it uninteresting fragments. a particularly memorable bit, though, was finding a spider under my bed the size of a coconut crab (scale reference: https://ixquick-proxy.com/do/spg/show_picture.pl?l=english&rais=1&oiu=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F7hixUzz.jpg&sp=938e0dbe6c4b4d265b732a4eb78763f6) and backing away warily with the intention of moving away, and just leaving all my stuff there, nope, thanks.
later dreambits of lazy snuggling with head-Loki were a nice counterbalance...
I'd taken the birdfeeders down because of the high winds earlier this week, and just put them back up this morning, and the birds were *ready for it*. while I was out there on the porch a hummingbird came up to the feeder, about two feet from me, watching me warily. the chickadees, juncos, and crows gathered while I swept the porch. as soon as I went back inside there was a FEEDING FRENZY, including a downy woodpecker. XD
After death, an angel gave her a paper.
"Write your sins."
She wrote small, and filled it.
The angel held a book. "We wrote your kindness."

like seriously, reading this article I am doing the most alarming mad scientist evil laughter. I'm not even sure *why*. this includes a strong impulse to yell "FOOLS!"

We don't understand how they're doing this categorization. ... not the programmers and not anybody who looks at it... understands anymore how exactly it's operating any more than you'd know what I was thinking right now if you were shown a cross section of my brain. It's like we're not programming anymore, we're growing intelligence that we don't truly understand."

but anyway volunteering stuff (mostly birds)
there's like four owls, one hawk (I'm not sure if it's a Cooper's or red tail), more seagulls, pigeons, a few ducks... and that's it. slow time of year! still plenty to clean up, though, and lots of seasonal stuff, like repainting, deep cleaning, putting stuff in storage.
but anyway volunteering stuff (mostly birds)
all the squirrels have been released, yay! there's one opossum and six raccoons, and that's it for small mammals. the two bobcats are doing fine, and we have to be quiet around the facility because they're trying to get the four older bear cubs to hibernate. there's a new cub, much younger, but with a very uncertain prognosis. :/ oh and a seal pup that's doing great.
but anyway volunteering stuff (mostly birds)
it's gotten slow at the wildlife rehab center. evidently most of what we'll get during the winter is birds that hit windows, and/or get attacked by cats. we have three hummingbirds, for example; the first since I started volunteering in... June, I think. today I got to watch a seagull getting meds and tube-fed (it was UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS), a duck being evaluated for ability to stand up, and a... robin? that was recovering from sedation & radiographing.
