three good things (includes food mention)

1. the walk to the store and back was nice; since it wasn't raining I was able to get through a good chunk of the book I'm currently reading.
2. while out I had an indulgence of a Menchie's sundae thing!
3. ummm.... I'll think of something! XD

three good things

re:lrb: that does seem like a good habit to get into. I was originally told it was "three things to be thankful for," but (me being me) it immediately devolved into asking exactly who I'm supposed to be thankful to, and being unsatisfied with "well it's a general spiritual thing." I just... don't work well with that. XD but I can definitely list three good things!

I lost the conversation to which this is germane, but: if a social place is becoming polluted, leaving is just as valid a response as trying to clean it up. If you prefer to try to get rid of negative elements, good for you, but don't shame people for just walking away - that just contributes to the toxicity of the place for them.

holy crap, there's a big log that's been floating in Crater Lake since *1896* and it's history is *amazing*: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Man_

Legal setback for ICE

A Federal judge has ruled that holding inmates beyond their term of imprisonment so that ICE can prepare deportation action is an unconstitutional violation of their 4th Amendment rights thinkprogress.org/immigration-

Oh cool, I started thinking about this at just the right time. The EFF has filed for a DMCA exemption for jailbreaking smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home: eff.org/deeplinks/2018/02/eff- (CW: Cory Doctorow)

when Nar presents tum, it isn't a trap--not exactly; he really likes it being petted, as much as he likes being petted (and skritched) everywhere else. he just gets REALLY EXCITE with the petting and sometimes he gets SO EXCITE that there's a little bit of biting or kicking going on. but only a little bit! and then he usually runs away because TOO EXCITE XD

awesome! crows learning to safely eat invasive poisonous cane toads! (the pictures and article are a bit graphic) australiangeographic.com.au/to

ahahah, I was really not expecting that silly joke post to go Masto-viral. XD

what do you call a fish with no eyes?

a Mexican Tetra! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_ specifically one deriving from the Pachon cave system!

I told it wrong

"There are no operators other than + and -. + always makes numbers go up and - always makes numbers go down. It's basic math."

This is what you sound like if you invoke "basic biology" to justify your transphobia.

Ppl criticize telegram cuz of it cuz that's what I want to give tummy rubs???

meowbeast nicknames

of course "Nar" is already short for Nyarlathotep, because I feel embarrassed about spelling it out every time I take him to the vet. I have no idea what they think it means.

meowbeast nicknames

Pooka is "Pookatown" and Nar is "Narcakes." I don't know why. they have other nicknames, but those are the "official" ones. according to me. Spouse doesn't use them, I'm the only one who does, so they're only official for me BUT THEY ARE SO THERE.

remembering how as a kid there were these reconstructions of a hypothetical Troodon descendant - which looked a lot like a Gray Alien.

But of course there ARE intelligent, social, tool-using manaraptoran descendants, and they don't look like that, because they're crows and ravens.

dreams

did that thing where I "woke up" several times before Spouse opened the door and let the rampaging meow beasts in to wake me up for real. also apparently in my dreams Pooka is a small female kitten, rather than a largish male senior meow beast, which I find amusing and very cute. dream-Pooka is about the size of a Beanie Baby kitten. XD

@fluffy actually, it's not! ねこ ("cat") = ねこま ("cat", obsolete) = にゃ ("sound a cat makes") + こま ("four-legged animal"). In Japanese, a cat is literally a "meow beast".
