@EdBCollie can I ask what the problem was with meow?
@SilverEagle I hope there will be patience on both sides and a re-alignment of norms. I think CWs are a great feature but if everything is CWed then most people will auto-show and that will make it useless
@SilverEagle agree, and especially the influx of clueless twitter users will not react well to "please CW face pix"
Multiple accounts shouldn't really be necessary unless, like twitter, you want a very bright separation between them.
I *think* replies across instances are mirrored in both places? That's protocol stuff I don't know
rules are at /about/more
@chosafine I am mediocre at art and have nothing to do today
This is a fun set of graphs: https://observablehq.com/@mauforonda/mastodon-activity
I suspect on Monday morning this is going to hockey-stick
Given that account migration essentially doesn't exist on any other platform, I am really happy it's there at all. I think that portability is a key feature of mastodon.
@benteh I have found that it's better to join instances that cover a wide swath. For the most part, I want to be on a furry or lgbt instance. But of course I can still follow people from art instances! Or politics instances if those get started.
The choice of instance only really matters for what your "Local Timeline" will show. The "Federated Timeline" will contain messages from your server and any directly-connected servers, and that will cover a lot more ground.
@Widdlywham I've done this once before. You can set up the old account to forward people to the new one so if someone tries to use the old address they'll still find you (assuming the old server is still up).
This process is a little clunky but you should only have to do it if there's a problem with the instance you chose -- it's getting shut down or you don't like the moderation policies.
@mjg59 my instance uses the Glitch branch and it has this feature
@mmasnick can you share lists?
@noiob hey, do we need to be federated with instances in order to remote follow? I've had problems following people at the following instances:
mstdn.social
furry.engineer
mastodon.art
@SilverEagle yeah it's hard to tell if people with fairly smart-sounding credentials are just being purposely obtuse.
@katebug welcome!
@txt_file np! I was a bit unclear
DEFUNCT -> please follow @huxley@furry.engineer instead
