ace, identity
@mawr a little bit, perhaps? I think with pretty much all kinds of identity, there's a degree of rounding off to the closest words; any short description is always going to be inaccurate.
I don't think I've ever described ace to an unfamiliar person and *not* had to immediately correct for their assumption that it was a totally off/on thing...so IMO that's just something that happens anyway. (certainly with you on it being harmful though!)
ace, identity
@mawr I think that last bit is exactly what it's useful for! every time I've tried to quickly go over "asexual does not mean zero for all people, but it might for some, plus there's demisexual and..." with people who aren't deep in this stuff, it's been much messier than when I just say "80% ace".
ace, identity
@seaw@witches.town huh! I've used it for a while, and started thinking about it after seeing someone else using it here.
it works as a rough shorthand, i.e. I use "80% ace" for myself as a quicker version of "ace + demibisexual". (I put some more detail in my own reply which otherwise didn't fit)
@vahnj feel free!
ace, identity
My own response: I use "80% ace" as a descriptor for myself, and the number has steadily risen over time - not because I've changed myself so much as adjusting what I'm trying to convey.
The description works well as a shorthand for expressing "I'm ace, but I can be interested in people, but I also don't want you to read that as I'm interested in you right now".
Demisexual would convey all that more *accurately*, but I haven't had great results with people knowing what it is.
Hey I'm using this account now! How about I start by posting pictures of Zenith, my leafy seadragon?
