GENTLE REMINDER:

I've started a funding campaign to get me some debt relief and a letter for surgery. Please boost if you can. <3 #TransCrowdFund

Weariness

I feel old and tired.

I'm on a mental health day today because I had a conflict with a coworker yesterday that's probably going to lead to him getting disciplinary review. The house is now going into its fifth month of no kitchen and my general contractor won't return a phone call. I still haven't emotionally recovered from the sense of community fracture from December. I'm scared for the well-being and safety of friends and family.

... damnit, Masto, a button that only shows up to tag stuff NSFW if there's a link attached is NOT useful if your users aren't looking there. Make it a static field!

Current work situation:

I was given an additional month on my PiP after I talked with a lawyer and came forward about sexual harassment I had been experiencing. While this is a huge relief I'm still in jeopardy of losing my job and I think it's about time I move forward anyway. I'd appreciate any out reach if anyone has any connections in tech for more trans friendly environment in the Portland / Seattle area! If you contact me here I can send you a resume ASAP!

Please boost

There's nothing in the world that's quite so awkward as realizing exactly how far ahead of one's coworkers one is on something.

Except, perhaps, one's manager complaining about how far behind said coworker in one's presence.

... I think I know what one of May's stories is going to be.

Coding

I didn't think I could dislike an SDK more than Amazon's, and then I picked up Google Cloud Dataflow, and I found whole new depths of discomfort I had never imagined. Imagine a codebase with all the openness of Amazon, but with documentation half-written by Google and half by Apache.

our mod @thefishcrow has a Patreon! They put in *A LOT* of real good work on keeping this place safe and have been a pleasure to work through things with, and their art is super rad to boot!

Yeah, okay, I no longer believe social.tchncs.de is operating in good faith. Sorry. social.tchncs.de/users/milan/u

I encourage anyone who questions my position on this to go through my timeline from today BEFORE they respond.

Codeing Project

After that, it's on to actually writing out the data model and mapping all the interactions; that shouldn't be the hard part, believe it or not. The function this thing is trying to solve is pretty... straightforward, if not exactly "easy." The logic is fairly simple to document.

Codeing Project

The next critical step is solving encrypted passwords, because this project isn't going to handle _money_ but it's going to handle contract terms. I'm currently looking at Shiro for handling authentication and authorization, and that may mean writing my own interface between it and Dynamo. Of course.

Codeing Project

Stars and comets, I actually made progress today. It's not much, when you look at it. It's actually pretty pathetic, given how much I feel like I should know at this point. But I have a DynamoDBLocal service running and a REST service that queries it, creates entries if it can make unique values and gives a vaguely polite message if it can't. Given how little I've actually done with front-end systems before, that's... that's real progress.

"I'm a senior developer. I have seven years of development, fifteen of IT experience, and twenty-four of employment. I'm smart, clever, and resourceful. How hard can this application be? I'm just trying to get Apache Shiro to use DynamoDBLocal as its datasource for Argon2 password lookup for a simple login system in SpringBoot."

...

"Okay google. Autowired context unfuck tutorial."

Do the hardest part of the project first, they said.
It'll make the rest of the project seem easy by comparison, they said.

... but sure, give me two radio buttons and no text entry field on that website and wonder why I don't like using your service.

Gender Thoughts

We all need to keep doing what we're doing. We need to keep being ourselves. We can't stop and we can't slow down and if anything, it's only going to get faster from here. Newer and more amazing identities will continue to come to light as the future reveals itself. But it does mean that, even as we continue to fight for ourselves, it's ever more imperative that we do our best to make things good for those who came before, and to try to make space for those who will surely follow.
